I would personally add a wrinkle to this, not that it will be a real requirement, but considering my background, it's something I would keep in mind in your shoes:
For any team thinking about doing a team logo as their submission (and even if you are considering it on the side), consider this advice:
One of the toughest parts of professional graphic design in general, and logo design in specific, is the fact that you do not know where or how your logo will be used. You don't know how big or small it will need to scale to, and you do not know how many colors you can afford to print with. In many cases, simplicity is key to a good iconic logo. Star king has mastered the art, as is obvious considering our choice of him for redoing the medals, and further exemplified in the beautiful work he has done for the Runolympics thus far. Take a good look at that symbol for the Art contest, for example. It uses exactly 2 colors, black and white, and consists of a blob and an arrow. And yet, you know exactly what it refers to, and it does not look out of place at all, even amidst the colorful backdrop of the '15 Runolympics logo. In fact, it would look just as good at 32x32 pixels as it would at 3000x3000. I would think that a reasonable concept of size ranges here in the forums go from 700px wide of the average banner/signature/post, to perhaps 100x100 pixels as a good size for Icon use, so aim for something that will look good between those sizes, and preferably at both. Also remember that scaling graphics down never looks bad, but scaling them up often does look bad. Design big, and think small.
...and good luck.
