Yeah. Pretty much it means "assumed without making a deliberate choice" (It's Latin - literally "in fact" - such as there's the way it's supposed to work, and there's the way that it DOES work, they are not the same thing, and this is the case of just how it does work, regardless of anything else - the practical expression of reality as versus any abstraction of how it should work). In this case, you were the only one with proper LL experience, so there was no other option, thus you get the spot without volunteering or others debating.
