15:07:02 <Venexis> (which actually gives you 2 clues - one for a code, and for more clues) I don't understand what this means
15:07:50 <@OJ> "crack this event open" probably refers to the clue for a code
15:08:11 <@OJ> "It's a code so tough, Voldemort would appreciate it, though I won't be as unfair with my riddles as Bilbo Baggins was" probably refers to the clue for more clues somehow?
15:08:18 <Venexis> Like... the one in the title of crack that code? :3
15:08:26 <Venexis> Nah I mean specifically the last part
15:08:49 <Venexis> One for a code, okay, the one in Crack the Code. But more clues where?

15:09:29 <Venexis> I feel like it's more subtle than that
15:10:10 <Venexis> Voldemort's literally a Riddle. His name was an anagram. Not sure about Bilbo but the part it's referring to is when he asks "what's in my pocket" as a riddle

Halfway through, 29/40 codes, and I'm feeling really confident with all these new hints. Anyway- added a section for hints Doram's left us, as well as a section for speculation and other things we might not be completely sure of yet. Don't know why that wasn't a thing from the start, but whatever. Also changed some formatting to better match the hints, and put it all in spoilers so hopefully you don't need to scroll past a wall of text to find bits of info.

Doram's Hints (with hide tags disabled): show
!Threads, profiles, smilies... There's suddenly secrets everywhere, but it's going to take a lot to really crack this event open. It's a code so tough, Voldemort would appreciate it, though I won't be as unfair with my riddles as Bilbo Baggins was. You can just leave it all in lowercase and run it all together, but be specific and thorough.
[hide]The last sentence is literal advice.[hide]

!No, I do not have anything hidden on the LL site general, or the LL forum.

!There are 3 codes that you get from the smilies, and they are actually hidden in the tooltip for the smilie (the text that pops up when you hover the mouse over the smilie). If you are on a touch screen and cannot hover, pm me.

!Also, don't worry about the Runouw wiki codes being duplicated. The way I hid them is not in the page, but on a template that the page uses, so they will pop up in every page that uses that template.

!Though the forum tricked ME, and revealed the end of the little over puzzle early, the big over puzzle still awaits. Many mini puzzles build into the two big ones. The prize for the little over puzzle in the Twisted smilie was supposed to come from a specific code. You can earn a bonus point if you still figure out the little over puzzle (Except for Raz). And for those struggling, all of the mini-puzzles come in sets of 3, 5, and 10. [hide]Hoho. You're thinking tricky. Good job. Here's a bonus hint: one mini puzzle is actually made up of 2 mini puzzles. But then again, I figured the wikis would be the easiest part...[hide]

!There IS stuff in hidden forums, but, [hide]except for Crack the Code[hide], there is nothing in any locked forum.

[hide]Oh, there's stuff hidden around here in hide codes?!?! Yup. Look again.[hide]

!The BBCode is under lock and key. You'll see me use it, when the time is right. In the mean time, get cracking!

!Oh, and don't forget that we have 2 wikis.

!The "search" comes last, and all is clear when you replace the second ten with one hundred.

!That first clue was pointing to the password to the Crack the Code forum, and it's valuable contents, the BBCode with the final 5 codes of the hunt. The first sentence, just gave you a taste of where these things would be hidden, but was not a full list. The second sentence has the first of the two referenced hints in it in the first 4 words, and the end of the sentence was the pointer to the forum ("crack this open"). The next sentence is the complete hint to the password to the forum, and as the hidden hint states, the last sentence is literal advice.

Now, seriously, Crack that Code!

!You can take this one literal, like the private one I gave to you. Your best tool here is organization. Literally write it all down together and have notes as to how things connect. Every clue I have given thus far is an answer to a question someone was asking about all of this, whether you knew to ask or not. Sometimes a clue that was a total revelation for someone else, merely removes a possibility for you, but they all do fit together and point in the same direction - that lovely round 40.

[hide]And, a further nudge for Crack the Code. Both halves of the clue refer to riddles that those characters made, and specifically, either the starting place, or the finishing place for those riddles.[hide]

!No, there are at least 5 prize codes (that are part of the 40 total) that can only be found in the Crack the Code forum, as well as more hints for what lies outside, but the password that you will use to enter the forum is NOT a prize code. Just a password. All of the solutions to these puzzles are something that hides a prize, but some puzzles are layers deep.

!There's more clues in hide codes, mostly in my posts. Look harder.

[hide]And one last hint today, in case you STILL need help with the Crack the Code: it's 6 words, 3 from each half of the clue.[hide]

[hide]And check EVERY post of mine, at least in this thread.[hide]

!Some of these puzzles point to new clues, sometimes to the final entry in their own set.

!A few of the puzzles point at secret passwords that you can enter in this thread.

[hide]Hah! Didn't think I'd put 2 codes in one place, eh? WRONG! Here ya go: 3153946it's[hide]

[hide]"♥♥♥♥"... Really? *Doram shakes his head*[hide]
Theories and Speculation: show
BBCodes is as good as confirmed for being the missing set of 5, which leaves one unknown set.

Also, it seems we messed up the combined solution for the Wiki sets, but it's not clear how just yet. Doram's hint is still rather cryptic, perhaps it means 10^100 (a googol- search "googol", search Google?) or maybe refers to a ten we haven't even found yet. Regardless, he says it's the last part, so we can figure it out later. I haven't changed the solution to reflect this yet because I'm not 100% sold myself.

It's also apparent we missed a lot from Doram's hints alone. Not counting the missing smiley code, we also should be able to puzzle out the Crack the Code password, but I'm too hyped and can't think about it properly right now. Maybe the last section is word riddles? We've got all the wikis, a great deal of forum properties (threads, profiles, smilies, and BBcodes), so I feel we're overdue for something a bit more abstract.

Anyway that's all I've got so far.

HOLY ♥♥♥♥ so Doram's clue about the Crack the Code being six words was a lifesaver, it's "tommarvoloriddletheonering", the answer to the anagram "I am Lord Voldemort" and Bilbo's "what's in my pocket" riddle strung together in the order Doram gave and lowercased. I figured it was something like this from day one, but only inputting "onering" instead of "theonering" meant we got nowhere. Once in, there's a [secretpassword] tag that I've added above, apparently the codes are all two words (yes, there's more than one) HELLO, USER PROFILES? I definitely think there's pairing going on there, but maybe I don't have them all correct.

Okay, I'm convinced that we're missing one smiley code, and the remaining five will be given from the [secretpassword] tags above. Changed the code spread to reflect this. Also have a strong suspicion the User Profiles set will be important to the secretpassword stuff, so I've copypasted it below:

Vendai wrote:
  • Picture Camera (Suyo, shadowsquid- both members who registered very early on, both members who are no longer active)
  • Big Bang (nin10mode, -OJ- the prefix numbers are very, VERY close)
  • Stellar Nebula (Doram, Raz- okay, this was a bit of a stretch. A "stellar nebula" is not actually a thing. However, stellar is relating to stars, stars explode into nebulae, nebulae can double as "stellar nurseries" for new stars? I dunno)
  • Universe Edge (Vendai, Star king- another stretch, but the edge of the observable universe is a captivating concept. Also my word bank is running low at this point. Both users are science enthusiasts, particularly of the space variety)
  • Galaxy Orbit (~MP3 Amplifier, MessengerOfDreams- my first thought: "the ♥♥♥♥'s a galaxy orbit?" Very few things orbit galaxies, except perhaps other galaxies before they rip each other apart. And it's not really orbit, more of a binary system... which I guess is a type of orbit... around some point between both masses? Yeah this is the strike against my pair theory, but there's other meanings- our solar system orbits the Milky Way's center every 230 million years or so. Also... where do I even begin on the similarities between the users these words correspond to? Both notable artists and level designers, both staff for long periods of time, et cetera. If ever there was a binary system of people... well... I'm gonna stop talking now :p)

It's looking like it's possible two word pairings are not the answer, maybe 3+ word pairings that encompass previous complete clues? So far I've had no luck, but here it is.

Missing one smiley code and two more secret password codes. I'm becoming more convinced that "search ten to the hundredth power" is the correct interpretation of both Wiki sets because of the googol/google wordplay, but what do we search google for? Where do we search "googol"? Is it a password? I've made no progress on any front but I'm certain it's super important somehow.

Our only other lead, the Secret Password set, seems to be suggesting Caps Lock Day (Billy Mays, July- July 20th is his birthday) but apparently International Caps Lock Day is October 22nd? There doesn't appear to be any Billy Mays-themed smilies either, so.... I dunno.

Postby Venexis » September 1st, 2015, 9:40 pm

So, it's confirmed that there's 40 codes, and they appear in sets of 10, 5, or 3.

We've found two sets of 10, the User Profiles, and Forum Threads. This leaves 20 codes, but there's only so many ways you can break down 20 into multiples of 10, 5, and/or 3.

  • 10, 10 (not likely)
  • 10, 5, 5 (not likely)
  • 5, 5, 5, 5 (not likely)
  • 5, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3 (most likely)
  • Oooor, Doram is not being entirely honest somewhere along the road. :p (this is called a joke, I'm funniest member)

Barring that last one, I think one group of 5 (Wiki) and five groups of 3 (Smilies, Hidden Forums (?), BBCodes (?), not sure about the last two) is most likely. We have a grand total of three Wiki codes so far, and unlike the Forum Threads codes which formed a sentence, none of the ones we've found seem to be capitalized or punctuated- that's pretty weird, since they seem to be another sentence. I would assume they are hidden somewhere in the body of Wiki pages. Believe it or not, this is good news, because it means they can be searched, unlike the template codes.

It's confirmed that Smilies are another set of 3- this is further proof that the second last grouping is correct, as it is the only grouping with any sets of 3. Apparently we skipped ahead here, and the code we're missing is a hint that would lead to the "marvolo" one? To be honest I've got no ideas here.

BBcodes was a heavily implied set right from the start, Doram went so far as to flat out mention it- perhaps someone with a bigger screen resolution could comb the list of BBcodes? It's awkwardly cut off on my screen, and I can't see any of the right-most columns. Hidden Forums is also a likely set of 3, especially after the hint that things may be in hidden forums, but not locked forums. (I assume this means FoA for sure, perhaps F23 and the Level Mod forum, but no Graveyard (sub)forums.) Someone may want to check to make sure there's nothing sneaky in the F23 BBcode list, too. We may actually have one for Hidden Subforums, F37 and Crack the Code are pretty damn secretive. As for the remaining two sets of three, I've got no idea.

Now, for some speculation concerning the User Profiles set. At first glance, it appears to be a collection of various space-themed words... and two that relate to... photography, perhaps? I'm thinking those two are probably pairs. Picture camera, you see, that's one thing. A second, more careful glance revealed Big Bang- also a single thing. I'm getting a little more curious (and convinced) that the secret to solving this one is in pairing... so here's what I've got so far:

Yeah, I dunno. Doesn't seem tremendously helpful, but I haven't really looked into it yet either. Thoughts, opinions, let me know, yo.

EDIT: whoops, accidentally implied Amp and MoD are eventually going to tear each other apart with their massive social gravities as they slowly spiral closer together

I doubt any of the restricted access forums like F23, the lemod forum, or the FoA are going to have anything, because that's not fair to those who don't have access. Just saying.

Also, Doram left hide tags in his last warning post:
Doram wrote:Ok, LAST hint of the night.

!There IS stuff in hidden forums, but, except for Crack the Code, there is nothing in any locked forum.

Oh, there's stuff hidden around here in hide codes?!?! Yup. Look again.

So... I guess that means we've gotta start looking for hide tags in posts.

Karyete: I don't have anything to say to you, I've been deliberately trying to not offend you for years, actually, but apparently everything I say to you is wrong. You come across as so aggressive that you successfully intimidated me into not wanting to talk to you
Karyete: Seriously, what is your problem? And not only that, you fail to even acknowledge you might be in some wrong here.
Karyete: Oooh it's you? Hello. Feel free to drop this right now. You're going to make yourself look like an idiot.
Karyete: We don't want to hear your opinion at this stage.
Karyete: You're not getting any apology, especially after now.
Karyete: You can stay up on your high horse, continue to twist the truth and act like an absolute child all you want. I refuse to give respect to a man who right now is picking up a dropped argument because he simply cannot fathom the idea that he might be in the wrong.
Karyete: How pathetic

Besides, the LL site is as much Runouw's home as this one, and I'd like the sister sites to act more like it, frankly. I had no time to really coordinate with management over there, so I just accomplished what I could by myself.

Ok, this is embarrassing. I just realized I got the numbers wrong on one of the puzzles. This is what happens when you rush.

!The "search" comes last, and all is clear when you replace the second ten with one hundred.

Oh, and since the event is half over, and NOBODY has gotten into the Crack the Code forum, I'm going to be a lot less obtuse.

!That first clue was pointing to the password to the Crack the Code forum, and it's valuable contents, the BBCode with the final 5 codes of the hunt. The first sentence, just gave you a taste of where these things would be hidden, but was not a full list. The second sentence has the first of the two referenced hints in it in the first 3 words, and the end of the sentence was the pointer to the forum ("crack this open"). The next sentence is the complete hint to the password to the forum, and as the hidden hint states, the last sentence is literal advice.

Now, seriously, Crack that Code!

So... Doram was just checking our secret forum before editing that warning box in. I think it's a safe bet to assume it's referring to the wiki clues, and that we're the only team to find those sets. Guess that means it should actually read: "search ten to the hundredth power"? I'll run the searches I did again and see if it turns up anything new, but it's worth noting that 10^100 is also known as a googol. Alternate meaning of "search google", anyone? I haven't changed the clue to reflect this quite yet because I'm not 100% sold myself (and also searching has turned up nothing so far). Suppose it could also mean 100^10, which is a much smaller number- only one hundred quintillion.

EDIT: Scratch that, post is gone now. Uh, sorry Doram :p

EDIT2: False alarm, post is back and copied above.
