They don't show up anywhere but the announcements header, actually.
Which sounds like it should be obvious enough, yet somehow I manage to miss an extraordinary number of announcement topics during regular visits to other parts of the site. I just scroll right past to get to the new posts in Gaming or whatever, announcements hardly ever change by comparison.

right now when you've posted this the "News" symbol turned red
if you regularily check for new posts, that's no problem
