It's a shame so few of our talented LL guys are staff.

*hint hint* Maybe we could bend that rule?

Well I don't think 1 vote is going to make much difference, we've established that the majority here wants an LL LDC first, and so it should be happening some time very soon now. :P

I'd still like to keep this topic open so we can keep discussing things like extensions, deadlines and judging stages etc.

I think it's about time we finally got an order for LDCs so it isn't 5 SM63 LDCs and then 1 LLLDC that lasts 2 years.

Just asking: Can't we also have a SM63 and a LL contest running parallel? Then we would have more flexibility about extensions, and the judges can also take the time they need, and if we don't make both contests within two months then we could just start the next ones one month later, meaning that three months would pass between two LDC's in this case. Yeah on the other side, the deadlines would become way longer than they used to be... Just think about it.
And plz give me a thumb up if you like this idea :)
I'm looking forward to the next SM63 LDC already! :D

Rating standards: show
1 star: (0 - 5.75 in LDC) These levels need a lot of work. They're totally un-elaborated, and/or inherently flawed due to things like cutoff or enemy spam, or they're untested and there are too many bugs gameplay-wise, in short: Many many things went wrong in such a level.

2 stars: (6 - 9.75) These levels are not terrible, but poor. They're too short, lack scenery or they have errors and/or bugs but it's still barely enjoyable. Again, spend more effort and try to do better. (if it's your first level that I rate two stars, it's not bad. There's a long way you can still go)

3 stars: (10 - 12.75) These levels are about mediocre. They may be still a little bit short, the gameplay is fine but not very original and graphics are also solid, but not breath-taking. Try to keep improving!

4 stars: (13 - 15) These levels are nice, but not the best. Effort has been put into them, there can some professionality be seen in gameplay and graphics, they're a nice experience to play, but there are still things you can do to make it even better. Try to go the extra mile!

5 stars: (15.25 - 20) These are really great levels, those which, as said, I would give more than 15 in an LDC. These suffice many high requirements, and it already goes into subtleties if you want to make them better. These levels are successful all around. Bravo.

These are just general principles I try to follow when rating. Sometimes I don't leave a further comment when rating, most times I do, if you have questions about it, feel free to ask further.

(This isn't youtube, don't ask for thumbs up)
We could definitely have two contests running at the same time. However, users that want to participate in both might not be able to do so in the time given, even if we extend both deadlines. If we don't have a lot of people willing to judge, some might have to judge two sets of levels, even if there's a longer deadline. It would effectively be the same as two contests at different times, I think. Unless you're going to simultaneously work on two different levels at the same time, for the participants, it's just going to feel like they entered the SM63 one and then the LL one, and both are taking far too long to judge (if the SM63 one was finished before the deadline to make room for an LL level, there's going to be a long time to wait for the SM63 one to be judged, and probably the same for the LL one unless we get tons of volunteers for judging). Some people might only want to participate in SM63 or LL, anyway, and then they would have to wait much longer than normal to have their entry judged. I feel like it would just work out better if we did them separately.

Yeah, the big problem is that some people (like me) want to design both SM63 and LL, but I find both designers pretty time consuming. Not as much SM63 as I've had 3 years designing with it, but LL just in the sheer complexity of it makes it a challenge to finish it with just one deadline, let alone if you decide to enter both. :S

I have to agree that the actual difficulty of running one of these things, both as an entrant and as a judge, is big enough that it is better to do one at a time. I've done both, and I can honestly say that it is always a huge amount of work, and I would be pretty overwhelmed if I faced two at the same time. I also like the alternating SM63/LL schedule. It is quite fair, and the contest timing schedule that has been suggested looks like the LDC process will finally be able to be called stable (which is something that we've been trying to figure out since the site started). Good job all, and lets go make some levels!
