I personally think the medals are okay as they are I don't want to see people begging for thumbs up or starting other ♥♥♥♥ just for achievements.

No no. He means your suggestions are too much and that we're fine with the amount of medals we have right now.

Personally, I have to agree. As much as I admire your imagination, you have to understand- medals can either be tricky to get hold of, or represent a user who is using their member's rights on the forum efficiently. So for example, winning an LDC or winning in RV is a difficult medal to get hold of. But making a post or posting 10 levels is probably a medal that the majority of active users have, especially the first, because as a member you joined this forum to post or to post levels or to comment etc. So it's basically like a requirement, and your way of contributing to the site.

While I value your suggestions for being out of the box, many of them just aren't necessary. A thumbs up medal for example- thumbing up a post already gives good reputation, so why earn a medal too? It's like getting £50 after winning £100 just because you won £100 for doing whatever it is that earned it.

We can still make as many suggestions as we please, but I think the number of medals and the types we have right now are quite fair. I don't think there needs to be anymore, except perhaps for event ones.

As MP3 said, I didn't meant to remove the ones we had, I meant to avoid adding new ones that would probably have useless tasks and would cause a disaster here. People join the LDC or an Art contest for a medal, yes, but this medal is worth getting as you know there is a certain judge that would choose the best, but a medal like "Get 100 thumbed up posts in serious dissussion forum" for example would cause chaos. I'd expect people to post a ton of stupid topics and then ask people "PLS CAN U GIVE ME 1 THUMBS UP :( I REALLY WANT DAT MEDAL IT'LL TAKE ONLY 1 SECOND PLSPLSPLS ;(". And that would ruin not only the reputation and the medal system, but also the quality of the forums. I do believe that getting a medal should have more serious tasks that people would actually put effort in, like they are doing in LDC, I doubt someone would post a 3 blocks and a coin level-entry and then beg for the medal. Even if I'm completely stranger to the LD stuff, I still strongly think people focus on the quality of their levels and put effort in them in order to get the prize.

Also some people are even post-counting just for the ranks "I RLY WANT TO BE CODE:AWESOME SO I MAKINGS LOTS O' TOPICS", now imagine if they'd be awarded with a medal for doing that, what would it be like? I don't entirely agree with the "Post X levels" or "Rate X levels" medals as I think some people do a quickly rate just to achieve the medal (about the post part, they need approving by mods so I'm pretty okay with it). Plus I think we have medals for every important stuff, LDC, Art (if still alive), Runouw Votes, Cookie and Bacon, Staff Member, and if you cared to check the medal art contest (probably didn't as you are new, but take a peek) you'd see there are a few that are not even used so they might be added in the future. I as a member cannot find any other medal-worthy taks for the community. That's just my opinion anyway.

I don't think that adding a thumbs up medal is much of a problem and won't create thumbs-up-begging. I pretty much thing everyone around here is clever to not make one of these, or respond to one of these. We can compare it to how the special ranks we have influences post-counting: not that much, as far as I know. Occasional cases of post-counting are seen but either accidental or punished. We are on Runouw.com, the only site where members want to be more powerful than mods (NOTE: THIS IS A JOKE), we don't have much members, we are all smart and all and grown-up, I do believe we can keep any begging to a minimum. If the forum was more important, I would understand how much of a problem it would be.

And guess what, thumbs-up medals are already planned anyway. Please note that they require an important number of thumbs up, so they are kind of worthy.

I seriously hope this is a joke. Thumbs up themselves are "achievements" as you have to post something serious in order to achieve one. And no mater how many members this forum has, there is always future and maybe in the future there will be a lot of more users. For example 2011 or so was a boom period for the forums because some of us, the vets, joined back then, me, MP3, SuYo and I think there are others. I personally don't want this to become a thumb-up whoring stuff and I hoped we would get serious achievements as a serious community. Steam for example has the Pillar/Ambassador of the community where you complete very simple and dumb tasks such as using a smiley or posting a video, but they get benefit from that as smilies are a result of spending money, posting videos gives them attention and so on. We should only get attention by posting theme-related content, levels, art and original stuff, even if not all users are in this kind of stuff, I still think medals should be made only for this kind of stuff. What's the next step? Get a medal for linking your Twitter account? Because I think it "may" happen in the future. Now this is just my personal opinion, consider it or ignore it, I'm just giving feedback.

Allow me to reply.

I would like first to point out that the decision to include Thumbs up medals doesn't come from me but from the highest authority we have on this site after Runouw (Suyo). And I'm pretty sure he knows how to handle a forum and achievements. Now I think you are mistaking two things that aren't identical at all. You are comparing "having 100 thumbs up" to "linking your Twitter profile to your Runouw profile". One is an achievement, one isn't it. Achievements are meant to show a person's progress in the community, from the simplest step (posting) to the highest heavenly heavens of Runouw.com (winning contests). And as much as you do not like it, thumbs up are part of it, even more than levels or art. They show your posts are funny, useful or great to read, that they contribute to a discussion or that someone couldn't have phrased a reply better. Alright, they can be spammed, but as much as levels or art, really: people can still spam levels (reduced with the 3-levels rule) or art... even if it's harder.

As for the part where you say the site might grow bigger and how booms happen previously... Well, we're still all sane, right? Every time the site grew bigger, the staff did as well. Even actual threats to the site (XNR3, Anti-MoD group or the SHS incident) were handled the right way by the great staff. I'm pretty sure change will be made if they are needed if thumbs-up begging becomes a thing too much (which I doubt)... If the medals are okay with everyone, that is.
