At this point, does it even matter if we lose the wiki? It's not like it's been actively maintained lately.

Post got deleted, but I'll summarize it.

This is normal for wikis these days, and honestly, we can manage fine without one. Given how... unprofessional, for lack of a better term... the old one was, we're probably better off without a disorganized, never updated eyesore.

Next time we ever make a wiki, at least we should use the common wiki setup that a numerous amount of sites have.

Well, hell. In that case, let's just start over somewhere else. I really think we could benefit from having a wiki, but we need to get organized, and we need to get active.

Wikia hosts lots of video game wikis. Let's go there.

we will not benefit from having a wiki and there is no conceivable way we will ever benefit from having a wiki

I would theoretically like a wiki that archives a lot of our ♥♥♥♥, especially famous ♥♥♥♥, in places I can find them. I've been wanting to do some history stuff on Runouw. However, it'd have to be a super professional, authentic recording and not lazy people barely editing a hunk of junk

Maybe if LL gets to be a big enough thing, we could benefit from having an easily accessible source of information about it, but I think I agree that there doesn't seem to be any apparent benefit of having a wiki about a forum community.

Whoah, whoah, whoah.
A) The wiki should and is not just about the forum, it is also about Runouw's games, and there is information to be had here on the forums that is inconvenient at best to get to. Who wants to dig through 20 pages for a glitch, or 140 pages for a contest theme. Nobody.
B) Even if there is a section about the forums, as MoD always demonstrates, we are infinitely capable of producing noteworthy stuff, and he likes to write about it. I approve. Everyone else seems to enjoy WITBLO mentions and the Timeline retrospective. Let's make it even more useful by making it easier to find and easier to maintain. The Best Levels of Each Year thread has posts reserved to 2015, which is... next year. What happens to 2016? Or Beyond? Do we reorganize and squeeze stuff in (pain in the arse), do we do some forum wizardry to insert more posts (bigger pain in the arse)? No. Let's put this in the structure more suited to it - a wiki. (Also, it IS actually pretty professional, MoD, aside from jokes, and we appreciate the jokes, so I fail to see how it is unacceptable at all.)

This is why I have always supported the idea of a wiki. I would like to have a more organized and properly searchable way of finding tips, tricks, and glitches for SM63, LL, and whatever else Runouw decides to make in the future, and I would like that same resource to be available to the general gaming public to support Runouw and his achievements in programming. Maybe we need to make people post their discoveries in the wiki instead of on a thread. Maybe we should be doing historical retrospectives on the wiki instead of on a thread. THIS is the perspective we need to get the wiki functioning properly. WE are using our resources wrong, and the wiki is being unfairly blamed.

This is one of the problems I had with our "current" wiki. There's a distinction between wikis and forums. The former is used informationally, while the latter is used for discussion. What we tried to do was make some sort of pseudo-forum-wiki hybrid. We were describing ourselves, and for the most part, informed people about what we talk about. What use is that, really? It actually seems rather egotistical to make pages for ourselves, especially as detailed as some of us made them, now that I look back. Isn't it better to chat with a new member so they know that information?

Rather than focus on mainly the community, which in action creates an even bigger wall between newcomers and veterans by having them learn about us on a wiki like we're characters in a drama or videogame, it should focus more on the games. Pages for each story level of SM63, the countless tricks and glitches made with the LD, and as I'll mention in a second, LDCs, their scores, comments, and placings.

That said, we don't need to be completely devoid of community pages. The things that have lasted forever and the things that have made a significant impact can have pages. We can definitely use a wiki to store LDC scores, comments, and miscellaneous information. We can definitely keep pages about certain forum stories, RRR, and certain social phenomena that has actually affected the community.

Do we need a page about the Joke-off? Probably not. Fukkireta? Oh please, god no. IJHASSIMP? Even this is questionable. If we do keep some of these, they have to be organized a lot more effectively.

Things like RRR, Anti-Moy, Survivor, RV, WITBLO, and other things that have sparked both positive and negative discussion is fine, but does something like Prepare-to-die or the Caption Contest need its own page?

Yeah a thing that could easily be done is to take topics and just make a page about them. Fads, forum games, LDCs, etc etc
