How to identify spammers before they post

Postby GalaxyMario » December 22nd, 2009, 5:50 am

How to find spammers

Step 1. Look at their name. They might have "Ad" as part of their name.

Step 2. Go to their profile. This will lead to the next steps.

Step 3. See their website (Do not click the link!). One spammer was at "Adult-porn.biz".

Step 4. Check the age. They are usually 28-37 year-olds.

Step 5. Occupation. One spammer was involved in government.

Step 6. Avatar. They have avatars about as small as mine.

Step 7. If you suspect he is a spammer, stakeout his profile and wait for him/her to post so you can snag that report.

That's pretty good. Unfortunately there is no way to do anything until AFTER it's done, and then you can report him, but then you'll have to wait for a mod to delete the ad. But this is a pretty good way to catch them a lot faster.

The name is usually a give away. If it's something really unusual or has lots of capitals in it, then it might be a spammer. BUT this is not always the case, so don't jump to conclusions.

You can also say something in the chat, like "Go away spammer!" or something like that, naming the person you believe to be a spammer. I find that often scares them away before they post…

Yeah, but what if they're not really a spammer?

Yes…which is why it is best to follow steps 1-6 of GM's guide and only after that do what I said if you are quite sure it's a spammer.
