I keep seeing more and more people with those award things in their signatures. Why? And what are they for? And how did they get them?

They originally were awards made by Suyo at FoA.
However, he stopped making them.
At one point, a member leaked (i mean-quoted a post in which the award was) the BBCode layout and everyone started putting their custom awards on their sigs.
And...Here we are.
They were worth something back then, but since now everyone knows how to make them, there's no showoff value anymore.
