Secret Bumping Theory

Postby Charcoal » September 17th, 2011, 12:18 pm

Real or Fake?

Here's the Theory:

Someone goes to a topic that it's last reply was 2 months ago.
So he posts a random reply and then deletes it. Will that topic be on the top, or will
it be back on the bottom where it originally was?
Will Global MoDs know who posted that reply?

Another theory: Using someone as live bait.

Some sinister person decides to get somebody in trouble, so he asks a person who is new
to the forums and has never read the rules to post a reply at a tn old topic after he does.
That new member agrees to do it. So the sinister guy post a random reply on the topic; so
does the new member. Then, that sinister guy deletes his post causing the new member to
get blamed for bumping. The new member gets REALLY  POed
at that guy and starts a flame war on him. Don't let anger take control of you.

The Moderator logs show every post that has been deleted and by whom it was deleted by, so yes, we known when someone bumps a post in this way.

Unfortunately, given the absolute unlikelyhood of anyone baiting n00bs to do some dastardly bumping for them, I must ask- was this post useful?

I switch my signature a lot. If you wanna see some of my past ones, here you go.
Silent Conversations and a Crow's Final Song!
My latest story, and one of my personal favorites. Form (25quared)
This might be like nothing you've seen before.

I like how both examples wouldn't actually work. Example 1 would "unbump" the thread, while example 2 would not allow the user to delete their post as someone else has deleted afterwards.

CHAUDIT: Actually it wouldn't unbump the thread. I've seen this used once or twice throughout the forums.
