Deletion vs. Locking

Thumbs up x3

Postby GrandPiano » November 26th, 2011, 4:35 pm

OK, so sometimes I post a topic, and I don't see what's wrong with it, but I come back to it the next day, and it's gone! I know that it was probably deleted, but why? Deletion doesn't tell me what was wrong with the topic. However, if the topic is simply locked, whoever locked it can tell me exactly what is wrong with the topic. This has only happened in the Off Topic and Forum Games sections (which is where I make most of my topics). Also, the Graveyard section is supposed to be where all the old, deleted, and locked up topics end up, but I never find any of my deleted topics in it.

If you think that our deletions were unjustified, you should PM us about specific threads. We try to see to it that there isn't an abundance of useless threads, and the Graveyards is really more for archiving the more or less "important" threads, because if we were to put every single thread we locked within the Graveyard, it would get full extremely fast.

Personally, I tend to delete things when there's no lesson that really needs to be taught. I mean, another locked thread with one reply by a moderator is just space-wasting, and a deletion should be enough to at least help the user understand that there was a noticeable flaw within their thread. I understand that sometimes our judgement may not be completely correct though, so if you have any questions, please PM us, we'll be happy to help.

Yes, we try to keep on top of things here, so we will respond fairly quickly to something that we see is wrong, but we are also open to your concerns, and if you have a good reason for doing what you are doing, we will listen to it.

Both Off Topic and Forum Games are very fast moving forums, and tend to collect clutter fast, so in the interests of keeping what is fun and useful easily accessible to all, they are weeded even more often than the rest of the forums.

And, I second the opinion that the Graveyard is treated more like an archive than a trash bin around here. It is just the way we have chosen to use it, and doesn't necessarily reflect how every forum will use their graveyard forum, so think of it as a quirk of the Runouw Forums if you will. If you think we should have a "Trash/Recycle Bin" forum where deleted threads/posts can go before it is "Emptied" once a week or so, feel free to suggest something of the kind in Website Suggestions.

OK. Thanks. :) I'll lock this topic now that I have both of my questions answered.
