Voting On Custom Ranks

Instead of the current 2000-post custom rank system, which would invoke postcounting within some members, I proposed a new system in chat.

A) Instead of reaching 2000 posts, people may request the privilege of being allowed a custom rank, and it will be voted on FoA-style by the members and moderators. Note that I don't actually mean FoA-members themselves, as that would turn out to be brando revolting against everything.
B) This would encourage new members to participate in the community and become an outstanding member, one that deserves the allowance of a custom rank.
C) Possibly, in the UCP, you are allowed to submit what you want your custom rank to be once you have the privilege, and it will be approved or disapproved by a moderator.

I don't think I worded this like in the chat so it may sound different, but you get the general gist.

<MessengerOfDreams> I mean, I give em out like ♥♥♥♥' candy anyways.

Yeah.. but without the voting. That just seems pointless and unnecessary.

So you find me revolting?

I don't very much appreciate your attitude myself, young man.

I think I only ever voted on those once, and I voted honestly. As for the comments I posted on those threads, that was me being me.

This is a good idea.

I think voting isn't a great idea, but you can just request one. Like the name changing topic.

Yes yes yes this this this oh absolutely this

Type 1 rank: No character limit (as long as it's not obnoxiously big), stays forever until you request a new one or get rid of it, allowed once per year.
Type 2 rank: 40 character limit (exceptions if it's one or two over), stays up to a year, allowed once every four months (1/3 year).
Type 3 rank: 20 character limit (exceptions if it's one or two over), stays up to six months, allowed once every two months.
Type 1 rank change: Changing a large part of the text, allowed once every month.
Type 2 rank change: Fixing misspelled words, adding/deleting words, or minor changes, unlimited.

Or something like that. :>

If a change like this were to take place, everyone who has a custom rank would be reset to the default (except for people like YB, with "Level Mod AND Wiki Mod"), and the Custom Ranks topic (or option in the UCP) would start taking requests.
If it were to be in the UCP, you would select Type 1/2/3 and click Next. Then you would put what you want the rank to be (with an optional "Reason" field). Then you would click Submit, and as long as there isn't an overflow of requests, mods would approve/disapprove them.
If it were to be a topic in the forums, it would be basically the same, except everything is logged in the main post (User's name, date of rank request, what they requested their rank to be, any changes, date(s) of any changes, etc.), and instead of going to the UCP, it would be a template post like the new portal.

The end.

Only thing I don't really get is why it should be reset after however many months.

This. Also, a year is a bit too long to wait between type 1's, don't you think? It's not like it's a username.
