See, the problem with choosing between a lighter and darker theme is that group colors can only complement one or the other (the yellow color for Hon. Members is difficult to read with the brighter style, for example). If it's possible, you may need to do a bit of fancy coding so that you and the GloMos can edit group colors for both the light and the dark theme.

Oh, and I much prefer the lighter theme. Just throwing it out there.

I think it's personally much better than right now. However, the different colored category banner/divider for the advertisements isn't something I'd like. The same color scheme would go well.Secondly gradients outside of the main background shouldn't be used as much or apparent since it clashes. Sure, it makes sense to go with the pattern, but too much hurts eyes.

I agree with many people that the color is too bright. I'd like to suggest 'skins', or preset colors to your scheme. That would mean making the .PNG/.JPG files comprising the skin you have in mind different colors. Being simple would be key here, having red, black, green, purple, ect. Nothing too complex or simple.

I think it looks a lot nicer, yup.

But the lines between the rows and columns aren't as great. Maybe the category name should have the darker colour? Just an idea. :p

Like me and the holiday forum. :P

EDIT:When will it be implemented?

The Holiday forum theme was actually the original theme of the site, minus the hilly landscape header. It was pretty bright, though, so I'd rather not go back to that....

I like the first theme, though, the light one. There are a few things I'm unsure about, but it's quite modern, and lively.

The thing I really thing needs a change is that box in the upper right with the User control panel and log out button, to make it look better no matter how small or big the browser window is, because as is it kinda clusters together and becomes a mess with smaller windows.
Anyways, I think the darker one looks great, good work.

I'm personally on the fence between the two. The white one fits the overall theme better and I'm sure once we get used to it our eyes will be fine. Of course because of how used we are to the black theme it would be a smoother transition, however the grid lines are a bit distracting, maybe darken them a bit.

I'm thinking the best solution might be to simply lower the brightness of the white theme to a light grey. In fact I lowered it merely three shades and it was already notably easier on the eyes. as seen here https://dl.dropbox.com/u/48733914/Darker%20than%20white.png(not much of a difference unless you compare them)

As for name colors simply darkening the bright ones should give it enough contrast. Or you could just change it to something more neutral and have an more stable contrast in case of future revamps.
