There is a notification sound that plays if someone mentions your name while you're in another window (not sure about tab, yet) but it's a pretty generic click that isn't particularly obvious.

I checked in the settings (the gear icon up top), and it turns out there was an option for desktop notifications, so maybe that's closer to what you're looking for? I haven't tested it because the option apparently disappeared when I went back to it later, and hasn't reappeared yet, but it might be worth a try.

Finally, Kiwi rejects new connections if too many people join too quickly. (As MK pointed out, this is likely an anti-DoS attack measure.) This means you may receive a "(Session limit exceeded)" message and be unable to connect for a few minutes if multiple people have joined chat immediately before you. If the problem persists, please let us know- you may wish to invest in a downloadable client or use the mibbit link in the meantime.

The maximum join rate without refused connections seems to be about one join every ~2 minutes, so this should not be a huge issue unless people spamjoin the chat.

EDIT: All that strikethrough text is totally wrong, apparently

Before you post, yes we're aware people on Kiwirc just got banned all at once. It should work again in a bit but once you're unbanned don't repeatably try to rejoin Kiwirc. We need to get in contact with Suyo before we can actually do anything about it.

Ok, apparently, once you start up the notification thing, it disappears from the menu. (not my favorite kind of functionality...)

I know I didn't start it, although I may have clicked then declined... either way, yeah, not that great of a system.

Also to finally clarify: Kiwi (and Mib too) each have a few hostname addresses you're randomly assigned to upon join. For Kiwi, this looks something like "@m-X.clients.kiwiirc.com" after your name in a join or quit notification, where X is usually a letter from a-d (unconfirmed). If more than three people try to join from the same address, everyone currently on that address is kickbanned from the server for a short (less than an hour) period of time. It may be possible to rejoin with a different address by refreshing the chat, but using Mibbit or a downloadable client if problems persist is likely your best bet.

We are still trying to get in touch with Suyo, as he'd be able to configure the server to allow more connections from a single address and basically solve all our problems. If you're able to contact him, it would be appreciated if you could tell him to drop by chat later on in the day so we could get this fixed ASAP.

I don't know if you guys remember or not, but unrecognizable name changes still are not allowed.

So does that mean using Shad is unrecognizable or....

I think it's recognizable enough by most of us.

The other thread was talking about the last time we tried to put the irc on the site (through the FOA), which is a dead project, so I have replaced it with the new hotness thread that actually refers to the current KiwiIRC implementation, and graveyarded the old one.

Quoting four's guide and Raz's last post for being pertinent:

So Ven and I were fooling around earlier today, and we ended up making a mIRC color scheme reminiscent of that of our old chat. (Pay no attention to Kevin's post above. Hush.)
BEHOLD THE SEXY
Image

How to get this:

First, make sure mIRC is closed.

Find the directory in which mIRC stores its settings.
For Windows, this is C:\Users\ACCOUNTNAME\AppData\Roaming\mIRC (replacing ACCOUNTNAME with your computer account's name).

In there, you'll find mirc.ini. Open this with Notepad.

Look for [colors]. Underneath, you should see something like:
n0=mIRC Classic,0,6,4,5,2,3,3,3,3,3,3,1,5,7,6,1,3,2,3,5,1,0,1,0,1,14,6,0
n1=mIRC Modern,0,6,4,7,2,3,4,3,3,3,3,1,5,2,6,1,14,2,3,5,1,0,1,0,1,14,5,0
n2=Monochrome State,1,15,15,15,15,15,15,15,15,15,15,15,15,15,15,15,15,15,15,15,15,1,15,1,15,15,15,14,1,15
n3=Placid Hues,0,2,4,7,2,3,3,3,3,15,3,1,5,7,6,1,3,2,3,5,1,0,1,0,1,15,6,0
n4=Rainbow Sky,0,7,4,5,1,1,3,3,8,13,3,14,2,7,13,5,3,8,3,4,14,0,5,0,3,14,10,0

Add to the bottom:
Code: Select all
n5=Runouw,9,10,4,13,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,15,13,7,6,15,2,2,2,13,1,15,1,9,15,15,6,15,15,1

Now directly underneath, under [palettes], add:
Code: Select all
n5=16763904,0,43775,52224,238,10040319,13382553,26364,3407871,3355443,48998,16744466,3368601,127,4473924,16777215

Now scroll to the very bottom, and look for [local]. Directly above that, add:
Code: Select all

n34=_Yoshi,0,,,0,0,0,0,0
n35=,11,,,1,1,0,0,0

Make sure they're separated by new lines.

After that, save, and launch mIRC. Click on the View tab, choose Colors..., and you should find "Runouw" in the schemes drop down list. You should now see the colors.
Now go to the Tools tab, choose Address Book, Nick Colors, and check Enable Nick Colors. You should see name colors now.

You can fiddle around in those two windows too, to customize the colors in your own way. You could give yourself GloMod green to boost your epeen, or give Avo a bright pink name. You could also be like Kevin and somehow fail spectacularly enough to set a bright eyerape green background.

If you want to change font, go to View, Font..., and set it to whatever you want. In the above image, it is Arial, Bold, 10 pt font, and I think the old chat used something similar.

If you want timestamps, go to Tools, Options, IRC, Messages, check Timestamp.

So yeah, if you don't have mIRC, GET IT NOW. It has cool stuff.

I updated the username colors,
Use the guide above to get it to work.

It only works for mIRC and the IRC chat thread was locked so i posted it here.
