That's certainly the way it looks.
I've done a bit of research, and of the Big 4, DALnet seems the most likely candidate for being able to serve our needs. I'm investigating starting a channel on there for us, and I suppose we could switch the KiwiIrc Page to it. (And I'm looking into what is required for writing a bot for it) This will most likely take a while (since I may have to learn a new language as part of this...).

Well that's certainly what we have to do. We seriously have to stop depending on Suyo like that

Ok, so, bot talk all shelved until I can prove myself not an absolute n00b at IRC any more, and MK is in charge. First post edited with announcement, and poll added. (and bannered and news thread posted)

I'm ok with any server that works. A kind of bonus "points" for having our own chat, with an independent server is that I don't need to see all the join/leave messages of PDers. Have nothing personal with them, just barely saw anyone chatting (except for Japes, but I think that's about it). (I don't like the "conference mode" solution either, I want to see when somebody I consider worth talking to joins).

I'll stick to the one with more people. I don't really care for a new server at all and I've already said my reasons (numerous times)

Disclaimer: none of these messages have been edited, context can be provided if needed (thanks discord!) but absolutely does not change anything about these messages and that he's too overly defensive and cocky to make situations better

Karyete: I don't have anything to say to you, I've been deliberately trying to not offend you for years, actually, but apparently everything I say to you is wrong. You come across as so aggressive that you successfully intimidated me into not wanting to talk to you
Karyete: Seriously, what is your problem? And not only that, you fail to even acknowledge you might be in some wrong here.
Karyete: Oooh it's you? Hello. Feel free to drop this right now. You're going to make yourself look like an idiot.
Karyete: We don't want to hear your opinion at this stage.
Karyete: You're not getting any apology, especially after now.
Karyete: You can stay up on your high horse, continue to twist the truth and act like an absolute child all you want. I refuse to give respect to a man who right now is picking up a dropped argument because he simply cannot fathom the idea that he might be in the wrong.
Karyete: How pathetic

Exceeded sessions are not something to be had on chats, regardless of how many people use the site or IRC channel. It is bad code, bad management, and frustrating to deal with for clients and users alike.

So yes, it either gets fixed, or the new chat is the route we take.

Any chance we could get rid of the link to Suyo's rules and replace it with a link to the OP of this topic (which not only contains a more relevant set of rules, but also contains a link to Suyo's)?

If needed I can track down the dal.net rules as a replacement but a ton of the stuff on suyo's version is out of date or completely wrong. Not sure if we eventually intend to find a more stable replacement (#main on this new channel for instance has some... interesting characters, certain usernames are not accessible due to the shared nature of the server) but we seem to be serious about this and I think the first step is unifying as much as we can (I.E., the rules).

  1. Do not post threatening, pornographic/adult, or vulgar/gory images/URLs on the chat. We are for all ages, let's keep it that way.
  2. Do not impersonate other users. Name changes with /nick are okay, but do not spam the command.
  3. Be polite. Spamming or flaming users will not be tolerated.
  4. It is recommended that users register on the forums, but not forbidden to be a stranger.
  5. Use common sense. If it isn't allowed on the forums, don't do it. If you're unsure about anything, ask.
  6. Any threats to hack, DDoS/DoS, or lure other users into malicious tasks will be met with a ban, and the user may be penalized and/or restrictions imposed on our services. Further attempts will warrant contact to authorities.

How's this?
