Forum Chat Topic
Welcome, forum citizens! If you're looking to get to know the rest of the community, you're in the right place. Keep reading to find out what the chat is, how to avoid being kicked, and most importantly how to join.
Alright, so, our chat has gone through a looooooot of changes, especially in recent months/years. Now, finally, we think we've found something that works. What is it you may ask? Discord, a voice and text chat service similar to Teamspeak or Mumble. Now I know what you're thinking, we just had a perfectly adequate IRC chat, so...
Why should I care?
In no particular order:
So what's the catch?
Well... There isn't one. Discord takes the good features from all our previous chats- high quality, lightweight voice chat from Mumble; the accessibility of IRC; and the logging capabilities of Skype- and rolls them all together. If you really want something to complain about, there are a few things these other programs do better. It doesn't have video calls like Skype, and you're a bit more limited than an IRC, but the vast majority of users who have tried it agree that this is hardly a dealbreaker. And again, it's still in development, so maybe we'll see those features in the future.
I'm sold- how do I get in on it?
We're still figuring the specifics out, but for now you can join by clicking the link below. Friendly reminder that forum rules still apply- a summarized version may be found below:

Alright, so, our chat has gone through a looooooot of changes, especially in recent months/years. Now, finally, we think we've found something that works. What is it you may ask? Discord, a voice and text chat service similar to Teamspeak or Mumble. Now I know what you're thinking, we just had a perfectly adequate IRC chat, so...
Why should I care?
In no particular order:
- It's completely free.
- It supports both high quality voice chat and plain text chat.
- Huge cross-platform support:
- Web version if you don't want to or can't download anything.
- Windows, Mac, and Linux clients if you're a desktop kinda guy.
- Android and iOS apps for your mobile needs.
- Ridiculous customization:
- Want a darker or lighter theme? You got it.
- Want to turn notifications on or off? Yup, that's a thing too.
- Do you want to change your name, let others see when you're playing games on steam, or even have new messages read out loud to you by text-to-speech? You better believe there's options for all of that.
- Images and youtube videos preview in chat, this can be turned off.
- We manage our own channel directly, no going through a middleman.
- We can control troublemakers (this is an ENORMOUS benefit over IRC).
- You can be connected to multiple servers, and multiple channels per server:
- To add onto this, you can even talk in one voice channel while typing in a text channel- even if they're on completely different servers.
- It is still in development and is constantly seeing improvements based on ideas suggested by the users.
- That's right, you can actively participate in making it even better.
- Official bot API to be released eventually.
- There's even a widget to embed it on the forums.
- Literally everyone on the IRC has already made the move- what are you waiting for?
So what's the catch?

We're still figuring the specifics out, but for now you can join by clicking the link below. Friendly reminder that forum rules still apply- a summarized version may be found below:
- Do not post threatening, hateful, obscene, or illegal material. Children use this site, and we don't need a lawsuit.
- Name changes are allowed in moderation, but you must be recognizable. This can be as simple as using your forum avatar.
- Be polite. Spamming, flaming, and impersonating another user will not be tolerated.
- Chat users should be registered and not banned on the Runouw forums. If your friend wants to join, encourage them to register first. We don't bite :p
- Use common sense. If it isn't allowed on the forums, don't do it on the chat either. If you're unsure about anything, ask around first. Failure to comply may result in being kicked from the channel; severe cases may result in a ban.
