Well, profiles are interesting, since they include an overview of all medals, level rating bilances and also some funny stuff like the "occupation" and "interests" fields. About searching levels, sure, but anytime I know the author of a level I want to view (which, in fact, is always the case), I go on his profile and search the level directly instead of searching around the portal. Overall, I think there are quite a lot of inactive users who use these features. If user profiles and other stuff like the "The Team" link were accessible to everyone, I wouldn't disapprove of it.

Rating standards: show
1 star: (0 - 5.75 in LDC) These levels need a lot of work. They're totally un-elaborated, and/or inherently flawed due to things like cutoff or enemy spam, or they're untested and there are too many bugs gameplay-wise, in short: Many many things went wrong in such a level.

2 stars: (6 - 9.75) These levels are not terrible, but poor. They're too short, lack scenery or they have errors and/or bugs but it's still barely enjoyable. Again, spend more effort and try to do better. (if it's your first level that I rate two stars, it's not bad. There's a long way you can still go)

3 stars: (10 - 12.75) These levels are about mediocre. They may be still a little bit short, the gameplay is fine but not very original and graphics are also solid, but not breath-taking. Try to keep improving!

4 stars: (13 - 15) These levels are nice, but not the best. Effort has been put into them, there can some professionality be seen in gameplay and graphics, they're a nice experience to play, but there are still things you can do to make it even better. Try to go the extra mile!

5 stars: (15.25 - 20) These are really great levels, those which, as said, I would give more than 15 in an LDC. These suffice many high requirements, and it already goes into subtleties if you want to make them better. These levels are successful all around. Bravo.

These are just general principles I try to follow when rating. Sometimes I don't leave a further comment when rating, most times I do, if you have questions about it, feel free to ask further.

Eitherway, they're not required to be active on the forum. All we ask is a welcome post, you could disappear forever afterwards. We're trying to do something that'll give us a better idea of our userbase.
If you're a lurker, make a new account after the clean up or make a welcome post, we probably won't ever need to do this again if the spambot system stays like this.

No matter how you go on from here, you must definitely keep the users who have posted levels to the level portal. There's quite a bunch of users that have made some enjoyable or even good levels (e.g. lucas s.c., Player7972 or FRANCESCO, who even has a WITBLO entrant).

EDIT: Thanks Amp, no worries anymore :)

We won't lose posts. Even if the accounts are deleted, on the old portal or even the forums if they've made uncounted posts, the posts will still exist. Shadowsquid's second account was deleted yet I can still see a post from it in the Welcome forum some pages back, it's just the username has gone white and it has no profile. On the old portal, levels still exist under non-existant usernames, e.g. before W_M had his name change and was still worst_master all lower case, he posted a few levels under this username, and when it changed the levels still existed, it's just the profile didn't. I remember seeing this when the old portal was still used.

Pretty much all the worries in relation to this idea don't need to be worried about. I know this is news to you, but we have been planning this for months. We wouldn't have decided to go through with it if we thought awful things were going to happen because of this. I personally requested we just deleted the accounts that were 100% inactive, aka hadn't revisited the site at any point. But I guess the only people this directly affects are the people who've forgotten about their inactive accounts, and e-mails have been sent out to all of them a month or more in advance, if they were really interested in keeping their accounts they'd probably make a post to save it. And even if they don't, they can always make a new account.

EDIT: Shroom, new portal users are not the worry, it's the old portal people are worried about. That was when you didn't have to make a forum post to post up a level.

Only complaint, is the time this was brought up. It's not the best move to leak it 4 days before this happens. Without this topic, we'd probably end up wondering what's actually happening, without ever getting clear information about what's going on.

The reason I personally didn't leak it is because I genuinely believed the e-mails had gone out to everyone, not just inactive users, so I thought everybody had been aware of this for a month or so. I have to say I was a bit shocked by the reactions here.

...
I genuinely don't know how to handle this, because nobody seems to know what would happen to those levels. It seems to be the determining factor of whether or not we should ultimately go through with it. Regardless, there's a lesson here- this could have been entirely avoided by letting people know what the staff (who do not have the ability to anticipate everything) had planned. There was no reason to hide this, and every reason to not hide it.

...I don't know. I remember hearing about it at one point (apart from that welcome thread) and didn't really make much of it, because I think it definitely needs to happen. I don't think the thing was deliberately hidden from people, because I do remember it being brought up in conversation at one point. I can go check the skype logs or something to see if it's anywhere, but that's still a very small niche of the community, and one that in and of itself has kind of been hidden from people anyway.

My point is that the fact that this hasn't been brought up until now was almost definitely a mistake. The staff probably assumed that someone else had already made it public but didn't check with anyone to see if it had been. Regardless, like others have said, all of the users to be pruned have had well over a month's notice to get the email and make the necessary amends (a la Seth.D) if they want to keep their account. Code for the portal levels could probably be sent out upon deletion, if you guys are really that nervous about it. Amp explained very well how there's really nothing to worry about.

A census, though? Hell yeah. Let's do it.

The email was meant to hit everybody. Good to know that it didn't right before the pruning. *sigh*

What we can do is push back the date by, lets say, a month and have a post on the forums in case that one also fails to get everyone. That or go ahead anyway.
