How isn't there a smiley for fright/nervousness?

Would love to see something like this:

Remove or hide: :troll: and possibly :ninja: since no one uses it

I for one wouldn't mind the arrow emotes just being...arrows. The lightbulb being an actual lightbulb.

  :geek: :ugeek:  are eh to me. I never see anyone using MrGreen, and it just doesn't fit in at all tbh with the color schemes. The evil ones are used to insinuate anger or frustration, but they look more like you just got down killing a cow and making a steak out of it in front of its babies. I dunno. Deactivate, remove, hide, or redo?

Tbh I like what we have planned so far, though. I like the style's too. Maybe a setting to choose how we see them? I like the blue, but I wouldn't want to steal the original design from those who prefer it more.

Yeah, the  or :x are mostly used by n00bs / newbies as far as I know, and if you're really angry it's probably the best to explain it in apropriate words rather than throwing an evil face. However, I actually like the  as it's pretty similar to the :D but still stands on its own with it's turquois colour. Also, the  is pretty cool to show a very raggish sense of humour.

Rating standards: show
1 star: (0 - 5.75 in LDC) These levels need a lot of work. They're totally un-elaborated, and/or inherently flawed due to things like cutoff or enemy spam, or they're untested and there are too many bugs gameplay-wise, in short: Many many things went wrong in such a level.

2 stars: (6 - 9.75) These levels are not terrible, but poor. They're too short, lack scenery or they have errors and/or bugs but it's still barely enjoyable. Again, spend more effort and try to do better. (if it's your first level that I rate two stars, it's not bad. There's a long way you can still go)

3 stars: (10 - 12.75) These levels are about mediocre. They may be still a little bit short, the gameplay is fine but not very original and graphics are also solid, but not breath-taking. Try to keep improving!

4 stars: (13 - 15) These levels are nice, but not the best. Effort has been put into them, there can some professionality be seen in gameplay and graphics, they're a nice experience to play, but there are still things you can do to make it even better. Try to go the extra mile!

5 stars: (15.25 - 20) These are really great levels, those which, as said, I would give more than 15 in an LDC. These suffice many high requirements, and it already goes into subtleties if you want to make them better. These levels are successful all around. Bravo.

These are just general principles I try to follow when rating. Sometimes I don't leave a further comment when rating, most times I do, if you have questions about it, feel free to ask further.

See. I like the ninja. I use him occasionally, when someone posts something I was just about to say, just before I get a chance to say it. I'll just skip the "ninja'd" and just go :ninja:

In all honesty, if I could think of no times to use  , I'd suggest dropping him, but I CAN. Part of the point of all these is to add a touch of emotion to whatever we're typing to help get the point across in a medium that doesn't allow for non-verbal communication (typing).

I am not opposed to dropping the smilie background to the arrows, question, and exclamation. Anybody else think it's worth switching (let me work up some non-smilie versions...)?

And, clearly, there's more discussion to be had, so poll go byebye.

♥♥♥♥, the one day I'm not here and I miss this

Tbh I kinda have a thing about emoticons. Like, I've seen people on runouw talk and use these certain emoticons since the first day I was here and so I kind of associate my emotions on runouw with them. Just as I do with emoticons that are used on other sites.

But if we insist on changing them, might I suggest ones similar to the IP.Board smilies.

Well, from a brief look, what we have/what I am making already seems to look like it will fit in. (In all honesty, a quick search on IPB brought every kind of smilie I've ever seen, so I'm not sure what you are associating with it.) Most of the discussion came down to me just redoing what we already have, and that is what I have spent most of my time on. I have posted all the new versions of the smilies in the first post for people to see and discuss before I install anything.

...So we can't have a smiley for nervousness or fright? Better to be clear than to experiment with what we have to show it.

I don't see why we can't. If there's interest (which there evidently is), then we should have it.

Anyway, for the arrow/lightbulb/punctuation smilies, I think I like the ones without the background that are filled in with white. They stand out more against the background of a normal post as well as that of a spoiler, though they'd be more difficult to see inside of something like quote tags, or on the mobile layout of the site (but I don't think anybody uses that anyway).

And one last thing I'd like to suggest for no real reason at all is that there should be a :> birdface smiley to accompany the :< sadface(?) smiley. And maybe add ones that are reversed, too, with the bracket things as eyebrows instead of mouths. >: angry eyebrows and <: worried eyebrows. Don't feel obliged to do these though because again I'm just suggesting them for the hell of it. Otherwise, all of the ones you've created are great. (I still question the necessity of :geek: and :ugeek:, but whatever I guess.)

I was responding to the question of whether we had something, and the answer is yes. That doesn't mean that we can't have another one. That's part of why I started this, is to create the new ones we need. I'm fine with another nervous face, but come up with a one or two word title for it, and give me an example (which I have for the new nervous face, but show me what bird face would look like), and I'll make one in the style we're using. Also, if you want that to replace :? , or one of the others, then let me know that too. I'm also trying to not flood the place with smilies, so let's not suggest a bunch, but if you are fine with it being a hidden one, just say so, and that's good too. I have some ideas for more hidden ones too, but I am figuring out exactly which I am willing to try and remake.

As for the geekiness, being the one usually geeking out, I see the use of them, and in discussions for smilies that represent us mods, the ubergeek has been the one nominated for me to boot, and not just because we both have beards. :ugeek:

And, while I'm at it, Should we darken the quote background?

EDIT: So, are we calling it Really Nervous? and how does this look?
Image

Also, I kinda don't like surprised. Can we find something better?
Existing: :o Image

and finally, I have added a white with border option to the symbols discussion:
Possible alternatives (Should we drop the smilie background on the symbols? If dropped, black with outline, white, or white with outline?):
