The main problem with direct access is that it's not visible from anywhere unless you already knew about it and have it bookmarked.

I don't even understand why this is controversial at all. If everyone's this polarized about it then I guess we could have an option in the UCP to enable/disable the display of each special search function in the header, or have a dropdown with a list of search options like ven said (except I feel like this would be a needless extra two clicks; the entire point of them being in the header is for easy access), because I see no reason to completely disable it.

The header is kinda vertically small on my monitor right now, so iunno:

If I shrink my window down to whatever insanely small window size ven is using, it looks like this, which is still fairly short in a vertical sense but does look a lot more cluttered:

I remember trying to redo the header from scratch. It was hell, because you have to work with some of the javascript and php.

As someone who likes customization over everything, I feel like possibly an option in the User Control Panel could customize what you wan the header to look like would be a great choice.

I changed my vote because I discovered View New Posts is far better

I think that we should get rid of "View Your Posts" and "Medals."

Now here's the order I'd put the header links if we kept those 2:

Log Out [username]
Private Messages
View Your Posts
User Control Panel
FAQ
Chat
Wiki
Members
Medals

Just remove "medals" and replace "view your posts" with "view new posts" and you're fine.

Shouldn't the next poll be coming soon? It's pretty much decided that "View your posts" should be removed.
