Should the Leaving/Returning thread be moved?

Postby PositronWildhawk » November 8th, 2015, 5:05 pm

I ppersonally think it should be moved to Site Discussion. It is related to the site in a way.

Alternatively, move it to Welcome, where it's relevant.

I second this.

I agree with it going to Welcome rather than Site Discussion. People leaving or coming back doesn't have a whole lot to do with the website in general. It's more people related.

I'd actually leave it in Off-topic because the Welcome forum should focus only on welcoming new members, or properly re-welcoming members that come back from a long hiatus. Plus, since it's in Off-topic, it's not harmful regarding postcounts if people announce short breaks from the site here and then.

Thank you, FF.

Nan's sig! From the previous Secret Santa event!: show
Rating standards: show
1 star: (0 - 5.75 in LDC) These levels need a lot of work. They're totally un-elaborated, and/or inherently flawed due to things like cutoff or enemy spam, or they're untested and there are too many bugs gameplay-wise, in short: Many many things went wrong in such a level.

2 stars: (6 - 9.75) These levels are not terrible, but poor. They're too short, lack scenery or they have errors and/or bugs but it's still barely enjoyable. Again, spend more effort and try to do better. (if it's your first level that I rate two stars, it's not bad. There's a long way you can still go)

3 stars: (10 - 12.75) These levels are about mediocre. They may be still a little bit short, the gameplay is fine but not very original and graphics are also solid, but not breath-taking. Try to keep improving!

4 stars: (13 - 15) These levels are nice, but not the best. Effort has been put into them, there can some professionality be seen in gameplay and graphics, they're a nice experience to play, but there are still things you can do to make it even better. Try to go the extra mile!

5 stars: (15.25 - 20) These are really great levels, those which, as said, I would give more than 15 in an LDC. These suffice many high requirements, and it already goes into subtleties if you want to make them better. These levels are successful all around. Bravo.

These are just general principles I try to follow when rating. Sometimes I don't leave a further comment when rating, most times I do, if you have questions about it, feel free to ask further.

That is a good point, though it could be somewhat confusing to other people who would be looking for the topic.

This is the main reason as to why I think it would be better off in Welcome. Old users come back all the time and make returning topics. If they see the thread pinned, they might be more inclined to post there instead.

I think leaving/returning posts are one of the few things in Off-Topic that wouldn't be so bad if it went to postcount. They are posts with some relevance to the forums after all. It's not like a chat, or forum game, or god forbid FoA.

Can I make a recommendation? Delete old leave/return messages regarding active users after about 2-3 years. That way it doesn't become a postcount party on the off-chance.

Or make a separate forum or a subforum within the Welcome forum for people leaving or returning.

We could also just put a pointer to it in the Welcome forum, but leave the thread itself in Off-Topic (technically, that would be move it to Welcome and create no pointer, then move back to Off-Topic and DO create pointer). No post count, plus better visibility. Everybody wins.
