Not happy with the registration and account retrieval forms

I had to try 3 e-mails, one of which got blocked by the spam filter, because I couldn't type in the correct activation code. Why? Because I can't read it! To give an example, what is this?

Is that a "C"? An "O" or a "0" for some bizarre reason? I thought for sure it was a C, but apparently not. But I guess if I look closely... is that a goddamn "G"?! Who writes a G like that for a captcha?
And this "V" looks like a "Y" but at this point might as well be a bizarre-looking "U":

Then I tried my other e-mail address, which apparently is already registered, but I can't retrieve my account, because it asks me what my username is for resetting the password for it, but I have forgotten what my username was for it. And I don't have an e-mail saved anywhere for it, who would? I was probably 13 at the time and didn't really care about deleting e-mails that I MIGHT in that distant future need to re-register.

So I had to go to ANOTHER e-mail address to try and create an account one more time and thank god that the captcha didn't screw me over.

If any administrator is still on this site, could you PLEASE:
* Make captcha more comprehendable
* Remove the need to enter your username to retrieve an account

Heyo, if you're up to it you can ping staff on the community discord, and they can help with the account recovery process.

The captcha is circa-2008 and is due for an update. We're currently in the process of transferring access to the inner workings to a new staff member who will be overseeing a lot of the major parts of the site. I'll see if I can't find a new captcha system to replace the old.

With the recovery situation, that seems to be more of an issue with the way the site was built, using phpbb3 and the older freeforums controls. There's probably not much that can be done there, but we'll definitely look into that.
