Let's talk about bumping.

As of now, it's not against the rules to bump.

Yet CERTAIN MODS punish people severely for bumping. We lose members and gain warnings because of it. We lose topics that are merely a month old cause "They were bumped blah blah blah you should crucify your privates for such an evil deed blah blah blah." Sure, welcome topics and 9-month old topics and posts agreeing with the previous post make no sense, but are not illegal. But users get banned anyways. Posts that introduce new ideas to old topics, are smaller than 2 months or are for good reasons help topics... but then a NaziMod yells at bumper and closes it down. Even posts in between the two extremes are punished.

Look, it's not against the rules to bump. So don't treat your slaves, I mean, users like it is. Or I'll reverse every bumping lock/ban made.

There's a reason we lock topics that people revive with minimal reasoning. If a topic is 3 months old then unless you really have something important to post, your better off just recreating the topic (which IS allowed, as long as the topic you recreate was dead)

If a certain member does it excessively, then yes, they will be warned. But other than that I almost never punish anyone for bumping.

The reason the bumping rule was there in the first place was to keep people from bringing back old topics. Now, most bumping topics that are locked are because they are uselessly bumped. The posts that people give are pointless and don't bring anything new to talk about. If they did then they wouldn't be locked.

Recreate a topic when it's already been made? That just makes clutter! It'd be much smarter to revive the topic!

Also by recreating the topic it's easier to follow than simply reviving the old one, since you're starting fresh.

Hmm, actually, MOY has a point.

Rather than lock a topic after an unnecessary bump, why doesn't the user who makes the bump get warned and his post get deleted rather than locking the topic? That way other users can make useful bumps if they wish…it doesn't really make sense for another topic to be made about the same exact thing. And to acknowledge your TUS example Blab, they were locked more due to each locked one spinning out of control due to lack of rule enforcement and whatnot than due to bumpage.

Actually, Suyo has been doing this. So yeah, useless bumps should be deleted, I agree. But it's the equivelent of locking the topic except you can still post in it, so useless bumping will still be taken care of.
