How are new members being treated?

They are treated well. It's only when they break the rules multiple times that users may get a bit irritated, and they have a right to.

They are treated well, for the most part. Some users could be a little nicer about how they handle a rule-breaker; then again, if a member breaks rules multiple times, it's their own fault.
18
50%
They are treated somewhat harsh; nothing I think would actually drive any members away from the site, but it may be a smart idea to simply report them if they continue breaking rules.
7
19%
They are treated very harshly; some members just need to shut it when it comes to handling new members.

How are new members being treated?

Postby Blablob » October 13th, 2010, 1:45 am

Yeah, um.....MIC went to make a topic about this in Forum 23, but I'd also like to hear your opinions. Just vote in the poll above, and if so, take time to further explain your opinion.

BTW, I've already placed my vote.

Re: How are new members being treated?

I, on the topic at Forum 23, wrote:Can't say so much. Basically most newbies are practically people that don't really know there's a forum just below the chat.

I mean it.

Some of the time I'm here (7 hours of my free time) I see newbies that don't follow the rules. I link them so they read the rules if they're newbies in Join date. If they are newbies only in posts, I tell them it's against the rules. By that time, they MUST have known the rules. If they keep spamming, I tell them again. After that, I tell them a last time.
Usually, if they kept spamming, I tried to fight them off. I think I let my rage get out of control right there. But now that Blab reminded me of the Reporting Tutorial, I now have it in mind.

Anyways, about the threatment, good new members (Itsasmallworld, for example) are threated perfectly. Like normal users. I do feel that bad new members (That we can basically call "n00bs" which fall under the category of spammers, flamers, advertisers, and people that don't have common reading/writing sense) are threated better than the good new members. It's actually quite nice (and rare) if they actually try to change. However, most of the time, they ignore it and keep doing their bad stuff, giving a bad example for new members, and the forum at overall.

I don't think I can say anymore.

I voted for 2.

I go for #4... Really, they're new to Runouw.com people, just say hi, and shut it if they spammed. [unless they're like mariofan180] If they spammed, just tell them nicely to ask them to read the rules. Not go noobish on them and go like "dude, that's against the rules, stop it now". I see some users do #2 like Usu and go noobish over a stupid thing. First, just give them a warning by telling them to read the rules. If they keep doing it and tiresome, then just handle it peacefully in a non-angry-flame way like me instead of going noobish.

Another thing i might say... remember these are just newbs to Runouw.com, not noobs. Sometimes, i hear Riddah call newbs noobs for some reason. Seriously, just stop with that already, they're newbs, not noobs. Theres two reasons why you should stop that.

1. noobs are stupid people who flame for no reasons at time [like Mariofan180 did in a pm to Blablob once]

newbs are people new to the site, they're not dumb, stupid, or dim-witted. They don't know what goes on in Runouw.com. So, stop calling them noobs already.

Now, think of what to say than just flame and argue like Usu does to newbs at times. Remember what they say, "think before you talk". Seriously, yesterday, i logged on, and saw a stupid flame war over a stupid story. [you know who you are, i'm not pointing fingers] Seriously, a flame war over a stupid :censor: story, thats what 6 year olds do. Why not "think" before you talk. Not throw a fit over something ridicilous. If you understand what i said, then think of this nice meaningful post before you throw a fit, ok. :D

edit: sorry it was long, but it was coming

Ahh haaa. I remember when you joined. People were wanting you to type in better grammar. I think a flame war started or something. Back then I think it was worse; it's at least gotten better.
People don't have to type in good grammar, as long as it's understandable and not l33t speak or txt type.
I'm Pretty sure I should put something here...

If you didn't want to point fingers about who was in involved in the whole flame war yesterday, why did you use Usuario as a bad example in your post? Maybe he's right, maybe he's not; it's not your place to start pointing your finger at him.

Don't reference Usu. People will flip.

Also, in case you didn't know, I voted for option #3. I do think new members don't have to be treated so harshly when it comes to dealing with their bad behavior. That's not to say they shouldn't be penalized for it however; report them. And speak no more of it.
