How are new members being treated?

They are treated well. It's only when they break the rules multiple times that users may get a bit irritated, and they have a right to.

They are treated well, for the most part. Some users could be a little nicer about how they handle a rule-breaker; then again, if a member breaks rules multiple times, it's their own fault.

They are treated somewhat harsh; nothing I think would actually drive any members away from the site, but it may be a smart idea to simply report them if they continue breaking rules.

They are treated very harshly; some members just need to shut it when it comes to handling new members.

Well MOY, you say you voted for Option 3 anyways. Both option 2 and option 3 are pretty similar; both state that new users are being treated a bit harsh, and while it isn't a really bad issue, there are better ways to handle the situation. (actually, option 2 doesn't specifically state that an alternative solution should be made, but it would still be a good idea)

Number 2, however, states that whatever behavior is caused by a new user, is their own fault. It states that while it isn't quite right for us to be so mean, they basically had it coming. And that's what the majority of the forum thinks.

I put it the other way... Just think, if a newbie breaks a rule, [like me when i first joined] They mostly get yelled at by everyone but me and some members. I reason with them, by just saying it's a rule. While the ones who yell just overreacts and yells. So, i rather go with my #4. :)

Completely forgot to set a time limit for the poll. It will end in 2 days.

Does anybody else want to pitch in their thoughts on the whole new members issue? Just so you know, I am trying to fix this problem that it seems (according to the poll) you are all aware of. So progress is being made.

According to the 18, there's no problem. That's 50% of the poll 20% of our active members in total.

The rest of us can't really make a case against it because they can just say "1 in 2 members think we treat them right" and then they will go right back to their noob sweatshops or whatever metaphor you prefer.

Yeah, but assuming that this is a fair representative sample, then statistically the 50% should hold (with perhaps a small degree of variation) if all active members were polled.

Also, noob sweatshops? I really don't think things are that bad, and I think even you can recognize that.

Alright, the poll seems to be pretty much finished now, so let's wrap this up.

The majority of you folks think there is indeed a bit of a problem with the way new members are handled (which, again, I am working to see if I can fix with some of the members).
Some of you think this is somewhat of a big deal and that it would be best to simply report these rule-breakers (as do I)
Some of you think there is no problem with it at all.
And the rest of you think that new members are treated like crap.

So, what do we do?

Well, to start off, I'm thinking of laying down 2 new rules:
  • DON'T respond to a new member who breaks a rule after breaking it more than twice. Report them to a mod, and ignore their behavior afterwards.
  • Do not yell, scream, flame, or swear at new members.
(Note that these rules are not official, but I will enforce them if I deem it necessary)

And yes, the fact that these are technically rules, I might warn anyone who fails to follow them. (However, I'd only do such a thing if the lack of following them results in something like a massive flame war, which you would be warned for anyways)

Conclusion. Be nice to new members; they are people like you and me, but sometimes they fail to realize we have rules here. They need to be reminded about that sometimes, but they need to be reminded correctly. That's all I'm really asking.
If you have any further questions about this, please PM me.
