Dual Destinies is almost a reboot of the series as almost no characters carry over from the original trilogy. It's definitely possible....but not recommended. There are still many references and characters that were previously introduced in the previous 4 games, especially the previous game, Apollo Justice, which you need to know about so I'd say play the original trilogy and Apollo first, if you can.

So Phoenix Wright vs. Layton came out yesterday in Murrica.

I highly recommend it, and that's all I'm gonna say so as to not overhype things as I usually do, but if you're either a Phoenix Wright fan or a Layton fan, do yourself a favor and get this game.

If you're a fan of both though, like me...boy are you in for a ride.

(Please someone else post in this thread so I don't have to quadruple post next time around)

New trailer for The Great Ace Attorney, the spin-off that will focus on Phoenix's ancestor.

Looks like they took quite a bit from when they worked on Layton vs. Wright, because a lot of the game shown so far is giving me that feel. The music especially, besides the fact that it's well, set in London for most of the game. Hunky Sherlock Holmes and Loli Watson seem to be important characters as well.

They give a 2015 date, obviously for Japan, but I'm cautiously optimistic for a release worldwide just a few months after the Japanese release in the manner of Dual Destinies.

Dual Destinies was the first game I played, but I've been watching an LP of the first game and it caught my interest. I've finished DD and I have just one thing to say about it: most of the voices are bad, particularly Phoenix and Edgeworth's. They should've just kept the voices from Ace Attorney, they're so much better. Let's hope Layton vs. Wright has better voices...

Anyway, here's what I think of the cases:

1 - Alright for starting but one thing bugs me: who would think to erase two lines to figure out the writing?
2 - Eh, it's okay. It has a few interesting moments, but overall I think it's just kinda stupid, like Case 3 of Ace Attorney.
3 - Best case in the game. It can be a bit complex at times, but the friendship trio is really touching, plus Prosecutor Gavin is pretty cool.
4 - This case ends really abruptly, they should've tried harder to make a smoother transition. I know this case and case 5 are intricately linked and the only reason they split it was so one case wouldn't be really long, but come on. The ending feels really forced. The case itself is just meh too.
5 - This case is really in-depth and interesting and keeps you on the edge of your seat. When you found out who the culprit is... wow. And the way this case, case 4, and case 1 are all linked is pretty neat too. Overall the case is kinda weird and confusing, though.
6 - To sum up this case in one word, it's nuts. Not the good kind of nuts either, it's the meh kind of nuts. I guess it's kinda interesting to have a non-human defendant, but I think they tried too hard to have it make sense. It's better than case 2 and 4, but I wouldn't recommend buying it unless you're just THAT curious about it.

tl;dr: My order so far is 3, 5, 1, 6, 2, 4.

Going to get Layton vs. Wright soon and play that, but I'm likely going to wait until I get Smash Bros and play the heck out of that.

Just finished the first game, and now I'm discovering that they're re-releasing first 3 games with some 3D in them on the E-Shop late 2014. Might hold off on buying the other 2 games for now (and I'm sure I won't find the other 2 games that easily).

Yeah, I heard about that a few weeks ago. I don't think they really changed anything either, so that's something to look forward to.

So I just got Layton vs. Wright and I've been playing it. Not even finished with the prologue and I'm already liking it more than Dual Destinies. The voices are loads better (those British accents yo) and the music is nice. The only thing that bugs me is Phoenix's face, it just doesn't look right. I'm sorry, but frankly, it's ugly. Other than that, loving the game so far. Definitely recommend it.

In other news, my local GameStop has a copy of all three Phoenix Wright games on DS, but they're taking a backseat for now because they also had a copy of Rune Factory 3. Juggling Rune Factory 3 and Layton vs. Wright is going to be fun.
