Touhou Project

So, just discussion of Touhou here. From the PC-98 games (although no-one can play them :troll:), all the way to the latest release (Ten Desires), it's all free to talk about!

If you're a new player, you're probably thinking 'what the hell is this stuff screw this I'm off to play Halo' WAIT! We have an explanation. Two, actually. My original (and horrible) one, and the ⑨'s (also known as Usu's) version.
My crappy version (warning: contains lots of jargon): show
Q: What is the Touhou Project about? I think it sucks.
A: The Touhou Project (which I'll refer to as Touhou), is basically girls shooting each other down while dodging a heck-load of bullets. Good for the hardcore person.

Q: Where can I get these games?
A: You can download the demos from ZUN's site (if you can crawl through all the mojibake), you can ship copies (like I did), or you can just pirate them (which nearly everyone does.)

Q: TOUHOU SUX LAWL MLP IS MUCH BETTER
A: Then get your butt out of here and into this topic.

Q: I'm terrible at this.
A: Practice, practice, and if I see you on Easy Mode I'm kicking you to next year. Practice on Normal.

Q: WHAT THE HELL HOW DO I MOVE AND SHOOT AND CRAP AND HOW DO I DODGE THESE BULLETS THE GAPS ARE HELL-TIGHT
A: At each section: move with the arrow keys, Z to shoot, X to bomb. Your hitbox is much smaller than the sprite, which you can see by going into Focus mode with Shift.

Q: I'M AWESOME AT THIS I WANNA SHARE A REPLAY DOOD
A: Here ya go.

⑨'s Touhou Summed Up
Q: What is "Touhou"?
A: The Touhou Project (called Touhou for short) is a bullet hell shooter. Y'know, like Space Invaders and such, just a little more swift, 6 stages, 2/3/4 characters (depending on the game) and lots of bullets. LOTS.

Q: Where can I get these games?
A: If you don't mind doing illegal stuff, get it off Google. If you want to be legal, ship some copies.

Q: TOUHOU SUX DON'T PLAY IT
A: gtfo yb
A2: How about you play it before judging it?

Q: I'm terrible at this.
A: Read this. And this.

Q: How do I move? How do I shoot? How do I use bombs? And how do they want me to go trough these gaps?
A: Arrow keys, Z for shooting, X for bomb, Shift to move slower and see your hitbox.
If you read the previous articles, you'll notice how they talk about hitboxes and such. If you're too lazy to click, I'll just say most bullet types have a hitbox smaller than the sprite. Same rule goes for the character.

Q: I want to share a replay. How can I do that?
A: Read this. Keep in mind that from Double Spoiler/Undefined Fantastic Object (i forgot ._.) onwards, the replays will be saved on the %appdata% folder on your computer.

Q: There are so many terms! I'm confused!
A: Here you go.

Q: ...what's with all these videos of animated characters? They don't look like a game.
A: Touhou has spawned a lot of fandom, to the point people make songs (AND PVs) based on the music found on the games. Some of the most famous makers of these songs are IOSYS, Innocent Key, SYNC ART'S, etc. The fandom has even reached to the point of making unofficial anime stuff.

Q: I've heard there's manga.
A: Indeed.

And so the buck stops here! Let's talk.

I'm aiming for a 1cc of Ten Desires (I've only played it for an hour so far), but that damn Stage 5 midboss gets me with her lightning. D:

aaand that's the most important stuff translated for most new players.

Anyways, I managed to 1cc EoSD. And I'm trying to beat Extra. BUT FREAKING FLANDRE SCARLET'S MAZE OF LOVE IS HELL. ;-;

I've played Touhou 10, and it is great yet hard, since I just started, it's near impossible for me, but practice makes perfect, no?

I like IOSYS' songs a lot, especially Convictor Yamaxanadu, Neko Miku Reimu, and Cirno's Perfect Math Class. Yeah, they're weird, but weird is awesome. : D

I also love Demetori's music, Nuclear Fusion, Necrofantasia and many more. Metal effin' rocks.

And Bad Apple rocks too.

That is all.

This quote makes me want Touhou 10

Pff, Ten Desires is easy. Normal Mode doesn't even live up to EoSD's Easy Mode.

Hard Mode is Easy, and Lunatic is a cross between Normal and Hard.

EDIT: Now, Fairy Wars, that's something. I like the Stage 1 boss' first spellcard (was she Sunny Milk?), I normally freeze the star ring and it acts as a shield. :P

That baka told me it IS easy, though I got a Game Over in Stage 3 boss in Normal in EoSD
And I do NOT play any of EOSD or Ten Desires, but I play Touhou Hisoutensoku. I may give Hard a try in Ten Desires without Normal :awe: Wait wut
Hard is also easy? *goes to play Hisoutensoku and Ten Desires in Lunatic (Insane)*

EDIT: show

Compared to the likes of MoF, SA and especially UFO, EoSD is quite easy.

I'll list the games from easiest to hardest, obviously excluding the fighters and PC-98 (which i haven't played).

13- Ten Desires (ZUN intended to make it easy to attract new players)
09- Phantasmagoria of Flower View (Maybe because it's only a Versus game...)
06- Embodiment of Scarlet Devil (just find the general strategy to most spellcards.)
12.8- Fairy Wars (It's simple. We've got Cirno's bullet-freezing making everything easier.)
07- Perfect Cherry Blossom (there's kind of a difficulty spike on Prismriver Sister and Youmu, but...)
08- Imperishable Night (...Reimu's such an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I'd prefer to play as Boundary Team or Ghost Team just to avoid her and her freaking amulets. Not to mention Reisen is confusing at times.)
10- Mountain of Faith (Things start to get harder. Some spellcards...are just annoying.)
11- Subterranean Animism (DAMN SATORI, FREAKING ORIN, ♥♥♥♥ UTSUHOOOOOOOOOO and your GIANT NUCLEAR ENERGY SPHEREEEES)
12- Undefined Fantastic Object (...i've only reached to stage 5 on easy. using continues. then i got bored of retrying.)
09.5- Shoot the Bullet (this one is supposed to be harder than the previous ones...at least you don't have to retry whole stages.)
12.5- Double Spoiler (there's more scenes than in StB, and Iku's spellcards are hell. seriously.)

Maybe you should try EoSD or TD. They're considerably easier compared to MoF.
