2-Player Mario 64 ROM

Postby Raz » October 25th, 2012, 1:57 pm

I don't think this belongs in Nintendo, it deserves more publicity, especially in a mario-based community.

After years of roaming the worlds in Super Mario 64 alone, you can now do so with a friend! Just as Nintendo had originally planned, this modification turns all of SM64 multiplayer.

A couple of things;
  • Is this all on one computer, or does it have online play?
  • If online-capable, does the second player get their own camera, or is it just all on one camera?

Off-Topic: I remember some ROM-hack team making a 4-player Legend of Zelda: Occarina of Time ROM. I wonder if this is by the same team.

1. Online Play
2. One camera, but the farther away the 2 get, the bigger the camera is. I think they plan on making it split screen.

I just noticed that in the video that the star counter said 130, so does that mean more content?

This definitely looks interesting. I think I'll try it out. They should've used Toad's Tool to make the second player Luigi instead, that would've been cool.

EDIT: Raz and I just tried playing. It was fun for a while, until it screwed up. I was dicking around in the mirror room and he was in Tall Tall Mountain, he died, and he was trying to direct me to die, and... yeah, it was crazy. Wish I could've recorded it, it was pretty funny.

One thing that is weird is that Black Mario (Player 2) has no reflection in the mirror. Guess it's just because of the way it was hacked to allow two players at the same time.

I challenge two people, try doing the Cool Cool Mountain slide with neither of you dying. That's like the ultimate challenge. :troll:

Can I just play this or do I actually need the SM64 ROM? I'm terrible at Roms and ♥♥♥♥. I don't even know how to use an emulator.

Nope.

Yes, I looked at the guy's channel and stuff and it turns out that he made an expansion called Star Road or something.

You need the SM64 ROM.

so this looks cool but i'm stupid and will never figure out how to install this stuff and configure ♥♥♥♥ and whatever else. I've installed a console-to-comp controller emulator (i don't know if that's what it would be called but whatever, it does stuff like allow you to use PS3 controllers on PC and you can configure it so the computer thinks it an XBox controller and stuff like that) before, but that's all the experience I've ever had with stuff like this.
tl;dr: can't play this but would like to.

If anyone needs instructions on how to get the game working, let me know. Raz and I played yesterday, so I know how to set everything up.
