I don't know if Mario is as succesful as in the past, but cleary there are better and more successfull games than SM. For example Half-Life or Counter-Strike and many others.
Just a quick note:
- New Super Mario Bros. Wii - 26 million sales
- Half-Life 2 - 12 million
As well as the Galaxy games being considered as some of the pinnacle of the last generation.
But this is getting way off-topic here. This topic is about the Xbox One after all.
Well, personally I'd estimate success in whatever fandom it had prior to it's release and the legacy it leaves afterwards.
Mario has always had a strong fanbase since the beginning of everything, so of course his game sells like nothing. Throw in dedicated people working behind the franchise for several decades and you have something of a legend. Albeit one with a questionable direction.
Half-Life, if my memory serves correctly, is a PC exclusive game with no official way to play with your friends and less advertising than a typical Mario game. Yet somehow half the goddamn internet has caught the "HALF-LIFE 3 PLZ" fever.
So technically, the world loves Mario because he's easy to find and has had a longer, more consistent existence (Mario has had like, 8+ new games since 2007. Half-Life has had none.). but in essence, I think Half-Life has more of an impact on those who care to know. But right. we're off-topic here.
My opinion still stands. Xbox One is not as much of a bad thing as everyone makes it out to be. but go on with your bad self if you still condemn it like the devil's spawn. I won't stop you.
THE CREED: Nothing is True. Everything is Permitted.
"...That's rather cynical."
"It would be if it were doctrine, but it is merely an observation of the nature of reality.
To say that Nothing is True is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shephards of our own civilization.
To say that Everything is Permitted is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with the consequences, whether glorious...or tragic."
