I don't know if there is some happy end to Creeperworld, all I know is eventually there will be nowhere left to run.
The back story is that the Creeper has destroyed numerous human civilizations, always leaving a fragment (like the city in Evermore) alive, and hunting said relic until the mini-society collapses. Then, rather then finish them off, the Creeper departs the galaxy and waits for humanity to rebuild themselves into a galactic empire once again. No matter how long this takes, the Creeper will always return to repeat the process.
The main games by Knuckle Cracker (which you have to buy) provide all the story, the Kong games are basically ads. I haven't played the first two, but I purchased CW3 (it just came out on the 3rd), and so far the main character has discovered a message artifact from one of the myriad civilizations which has fallen which reveals the Creeper is controlled by a species known as the "Loki."
The premise of this game is that, after in hibernation in a well-hidden stasis ship for five billion years after the events of the previous games (which I haven't played, thus I'm essentially learning the story both ways as I progress), you awaken just after a civilization has fallen, and the Creeper is departing. The idea is that you planned this, in order to try and learn about the Creeper/Loki, surmising they will act openly and thus reveal themselves as they retreat, since they think no one is watching.
Exactly why you've waited 5 billion years, during which 347 civilizations are stated to have fallen since the one you left, is something which hasn't been explained yet.
Most of the time so far, I've been scouring planets, picking up various technologies from the aforementioned civilizations and eliminating the Creeper garrisons there.
For some reason the Creeper doesn't seem to realize I exist, despite me attacking planets, until about one-fourth through the game - which is where I am now.
I've yet to see how they're reacting to this on a grand scale, just in battles the Creeper is more intelligent and gets a few new abilities to represent their new-found threat awareness.
As for pure lore, the main thing I'm supposedly doing is tracking down the homeworld of the "Seloi" - the only civilization which communicated with the Creeper. They are implied to know the intentions of the Loki, and I apparently hope to discover said intentions by locating their homeworld.
In case you're interested, Creeper World 1 plays like the Kong game I posted in the OP (Evermore), CW2 plays like
this. CW3 plays just like Evermore, except with updated graphics and a host of new structures and abilities. The Creeper itself is also overhauled, and while still follows the strategy of flooding you, has a host of surprises of its own.
Its only 15 USD, so if you like Evermore I'd recommend it. That being said, if you find the game repetitive, the enhancements probably won't sell it for you.
