Since We're On the Topic of Nostalgia...

First of all, this game that I'm going to mention is pretty old, back during the 80's MS DOS computer games. It has only seen at least 2 sequels that I'm aware of, along with expansion packs for those sequels. It has been on MS DOS (of course), the N64, and has a newer- but still pretty old -sequel in the form of a non-MS DOS executable game.

I'm recalling back to this game because, oddly enough, it was a pretty big part of my childhood, and I can remember it so clearly from back then. I used to play the N64 version for hours trying to understand the ridiculously unusual game-play mechanics, if you really want to call quirky controls as a game-play mechanic. To be honest, back when it came out on MS DOS, there were quite a few innovations in this game for its time, so I was fairly lenient on its control scheme, because the DOS version was just as annoyingly uncontrollable. A few configurations on xpadder, and a DOSBOX emulator later, and I was ready to jump into the game.

What's the game, you ask?

HEXEN

Spoiler: show
No, not that kind of hexen

Otherwise known as Hexen: Beyond Heretic, it was a sequel to Heretic, and it followed up the story of a *heretic* who stood up against the serpent riders- the evil antagonists in the games -and defeated the first serpent rider. However, while this was happening, another of the serpent riders went to the land of Hexen and ruined everything there. New heroes (The Fighter, The Cleric, and The Mage) emerged to fight the next serpent rider, Korax. The Seven Portals, which stood as a safeguard for hexen, now stand in your way, blocking your path to the next serpent rider.

As demonic and hellish as it is, it's a pretty big blip on my childhood memories. I even had the urge to play through it again, finally managing to get past The Seven Portals hub world, and move onto the next hub world. Though it's merely a nostalgic trip down memory lane, it is an interesting game, minus the ♥♥♥♥ controls. I don't know if anyone else remembers this game at all, as it was fairly easy to forget unless you actually played it.

Even the original soundtrack is hard to find in a full download. That's how forgettable it was.
