As Sonic Boom comes out, I wanted to see how it compared to a game that I didn't like: Sonic Heroes. I didn't like the fact that you split into 3 characters and... well, that's all I remembered about it. So I decided to re-play it and... Boy, it is worse than I remembered. Literally the first 2 levels were filled with glitches that made me fall of the 'automated' ramps (I say automated because the game stupidly still lets you control while on them -.-") or fall through them, the characters move way too fast, the controls seem not responsive enough... But as a soon farewell to my PS2, I wanted to 100% it...

...after about 20 tries to A rank Power Plant, and finish with a C I said "♥♥♥♥ it". I don't care. I'll finish this, but that's the least I'll do. ♥♥♥♥ this game.

Personally, I like Sonic Heroes, but I don't think it's all that good of a game, either. I played it before I got my hands on the adventure games, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I even the infamous Team Chaotix Mystic Mansion mission, but that's because I made sure to take out any torch I found. I realized how ♥♥♥♥ that mission was once I took on the other one where you have to blow out the blue candles, too.

Also, I'm guessing that you played the PS2 version? If so, then I'm sorry. It's the one version that has the most bugs and frame-rate issues.

Anyways, I've been playing the two Zelda games released for the DS for a second time, and my opinions on them haven't changed a whole lot. If anything, they got worse.
Rant Ahead!: show
The touch controls work (with the occasional attack when I didn't want to), but they're not the way I want to play a Zelda game. Phantom Hourglass is as boring as I remember it being, as all the dungeons are incredibly short and easy. One thing I have grown to appreciate more in that game is the Temple of the Ocean King, as there are multiple paths to reach your objective as you unlock more tools. Another small thing I like is how the ocean has a little more to do in it than Wind Waker did, in the sense that you can't just zip past enemies. It's too bad they're easy to defeat anyways. That, and free-roaming navigation.

I still personally like Spirit Tracks more than Phantom Hourglass, but I will admit that it has plenty of flaws. For one, the dungeons are still pretty easy, though I will give it credit since they're a little more difficult this time, and a little longer. There's only 5 of them and 6 weapons to collect, so there's less to work with. I don't mind the train aspect, and while I may miss the free-roaming aspect of Phantom Hourglass, I guess they did that because of the Force Gems that unlock more train tracks as you do side-quests. It feels rewarding, even if it's for something like access to a bunny. Graphically, this game looks pretty good, too. Sure, it looks pixelated in places due to the hardware limitations, but I think it still looks nice enough. The Tower of Spirits is a lot easier this time since there's not timer like the Temple of the Ocean Kind from PA, but I honestly kind of missed that. Possessing the Phantoms is a neat twist, as it adds quite a few puzzle opportunities to the mix.

Before you finish it forever and all time, try to get 100,000 points with Team Dark in Hang Castle, just like I did recently :C

And maybe watch some Youtube videos to see how to A rank Power Plant. Despite from the team battle bosses and a few Team Sonic extra missions, all A ranks are very easy to get. Even on the PS2 version :P

Rating standards: show
1 star: (0 - 5.75 in LDC) These levels need a lot of work. They're totally un-elaborated, and/or inherently flawed due to things like cutoff or enemy spam, or they're untested and there are too many bugs gameplay-wise, in short: Many many things went wrong in such a level.

2 stars: (6 - 9.75) These levels are not terrible, but poor. They're too short, lack scenery or they have errors and/or bugs but it's still barely enjoyable. Again, spend more effort and try to do better. (if it's your first level that I rate two stars, it's not bad. There's a long way you can still go)

3 stars: (10 - 12.75) These levels are about mediocre. They may be still a little bit short, the gameplay is fine but not very original and graphics are also solid, but not breath-taking. Try to keep improving!

4 stars: (13 - 15) These levels are nice, but not the best. Effort has been put into them, there can some professionality be seen in gameplay and graphics, they're a nice experience to play, but there are still things you can do to make it even better. Try to go the extra mile!

5 stars: (15.25 - 20) These are really great levels, those which, as said, I would give more than 15 in an LDC. These suffice many high requirements, and it already goes into subtleties if you want to make them better. These levels are successful all around. Bravo.

These are just general principles I try to follow when rating. Sometimes I don't leave a further comment when rating, most times I do, if you have questions about it, feel free to ask further.

I've heared that, but the framerate slowing down isn't my issue here. I do get slowdowns, yes, but that is not what stops me from enjoying this game.

rant: show
For 1, Sonic and the crew moves WAY too fast when compared to the camera zoom and the space you can move in. You literally will touch the control stick and your characters go flying off the ♥♥♥♥ edge. I can't imagine that being the problem of the PS2, it's not like the controls magically go bad when transferring from one console to another? But it's not like jumping is any better either, as you have no shadow under yourself and no depth perception, so sections like the lava filling portion of Power Plant are made infuriating (now this might be a PS2 version problem). The camera is another problem, try to twist it and the camera zooms in way too close to even operate. Bugs have been frequent, but especially so in Seaside Hill and Casino levels. I need to mention the 'automated' ramps problem again, but in Ocean Palace, it's infuriating when you go through 6 minutes of level, just to lose all your rings and die, effectively killing your A rank. In casino levels ,the infamous camera strikes again where I sometimes could not land where I wanted to because camera just gave up. But aside from that, the flipper things not bouncing me up, somehow jumping on top of the pinball machine and other problems. But by far, the worst offender so far in the game was level design. The first two stages were actually pretty atmospheric, and it was cool discovering all the secret paths and such. I liked that.

But then we get to ♥♥♥♥ casino levels. I spent NEARLY AN HOUR on the first level. Why? The ♥♥♥♥ pinball machine. Not only was it hard to bounce yourself up, but also atrocious controls which I cannot even begin to describe, the flippers not working when I'm at the ♥♥♥♥ TOP AND JUST ABOUT TO LEAVE, glitches mentioned previously, the fact that you have lots of other ♥♥♥♥ bouncing you around and the fact that you do it NOT ONLY ONCE, BUT MULTIPLE ♥♥♥♥ TIMES, THIS IS THE PINNACLE OF ♥♥♥♥ LEVEL DESIGN OF THAT WORLD LADIES AND GENTELMEN! The Bingo thing was a bit better, only because most of the Pinball machines are optional and the final 'obstacle' is not deadly if you use only 1 character to go down the bingo. Also yes, the ♥♥♥♥ deadly traps at the end of stage 2 of each world. You have to collect Chaos Emeralds by collecting keys in a level, but if you die/get hit you lose it and have to get it again. The problem is that at the end of the stage you get a section which is just ridiculous and you will most likely die/get hit. In Seaside hill it was the rolling rock (and the loopdeloop glitch), in Metropolis it was the Power Plant with no depth perception and, once again weird glitches when attacking the enemies (the only upside this gets is that the key is easy to get if you die). The bingo portion was much easier, since I found out that you can only send 1 character at a time and not really die (that and the key was easy to get if you did die), but still, the camera also was glitchy as hell, the atrocious controls while rolling did not help and the ♥♥♥♥ death traps. Not to mention the Special stages which are stupidly hard with an analogue stick and the fact that Sonic runs up onto the ceiling for no reason on turns and randomly trips and falls -.-

Not to mention that switching is silly. It would most of the time skip the character I wanted to use. I think I know why that's happening, but it could be easily fixed. Going through levels is made more annoying because of this.

I did. Maybe after some practicing, I'd get the A in Power plant, but the Casino? Nope, nope, nope o' clock.

I'm currently on the Railway world and attempting to get the 3rd Emerald. I've heared that the worlds after casino aren't the greatest and also that the 3rd emerald is the hardest :/ Yay...

Now that I'm done with Sonic's story, time to play something better (IMO); Kingdom Hearts 2. I'm already at the Nightmare before Christmas world, and I'm loving the gameplay and every world. Especially a very... nostalgic... world. Yeah, that should be obvious now.
