Exaclty. In the Windows 8.1, the BSoD is now simpler and with a new appearance, to replace that scary bunch of text in a blue background.

This has been common since Windows 8, not just 8.1.
I think there is a way to make the BSoD non-condensed and actually give you the tech info, but I can't recall the manner.

It's actually pretty okay, just the initial menu before the desktop is pretty useless.
