What do you think of Windows 10?

The release is here. 7 and 8.1 Update users who have reserved their copy of 10 can download it when it's ready now. Insiders can keep their original system, be it 7 or 8.1, due to build 10240 being the RTM release which removes the "Evaluation copy." and marks the release as the official Windows 10 - it looks official, but you can still continue receiving preview builds like it's still pre-release. I chose not to continue as an Insider.

I opted to keep my 8.1 because that Start Screen is the loveliest. But after looking at the fullscreen Start Screen in 10240, I think I can remove 8.1 now and stick to 10 for eternity. This is my question to you as I need opinions on what I should do: Should I remove the 10 dualboot and upgrade 8.1 or remove 8.1 and keep the 10 dualboot?

That, is regarding my use. Now, YOUR turn:

• Are you opting for 10? If yes, will you clean-install or just keep the files, or keep everything?
• If you are an Insider with a 10 dualboot, which system will you keep when deleting? The 10 dualboot or your original system, provided you're upgrading?
• Has Microsoft missed ANYTHING that's not zero-priority?
• Are you satisfied with 10 after what you've seen in 8.1 or how you had to stick to 7?

First of all, I'm not forcing you to try it out, since you'll have to join the Windows Insider Program if you decide to try it out. And there are precautions also.

I myself after dualbooting 10 and reinstalling the drivers (especially the HD Graphics driver), reinstalled everything I need from Opera, EagleGet (I used EagleGet to DL the ISO), HexChat and the stuff I have, on 10. And I have mixed opinions about 10, being a preview and all...but it was when I had 10041. Now with 10074 few opinions have changed, and I can say Windows 10 is a mix of 8.1 and 7, well more of a 7.

Now, what do I think of Windows 10? Well, I have no secondary PC and had to share all data so yeah, can't risk stuff because I'm OBLIGED to dualboot it on my primary PC, my laptop. But I have my recovery drive, y'know. But overall, I'll have to wait for the release version!

That was about me. If you have Windows 10 already, what do you think of it so far? Need something missing in Windows 10?
If you don't, are you excited for it or don't really like it? Maybe you're afraid of incompatibility, or the crashes? Or just waiting for the release version?
I know I'll hear mixed opinions, but I'd love to hear.

It looks really similar to Windows 8 tbh, my laptop is Windows 8.

Yeah, it looks pretty much the same as 8 to me. The only difference is the start menu instead of start screen, and icons in the taskbar are centered rather than left aligned (I prefer the latter anyway). Also, there's an ugly search bar next to the start button on the taskbar for some reason. I really hope you can remove that, because I wouldn't ever use it and it's just in the way.

Also, just wondering, what happened to Windows 9? Are they treating 8.1 as if it's a full release? Or was there actually a 9 that was in development, but later scrapped?

If I can customize more than Win8, it's already better. Users want options. It's super simple stuff, Microsoft.

Love the new start menu, but honestly I'm not such a fan of the search bar being right beside the start icon... ew? Now my entire taskbar is unbalanced. I'm guessing it works like the 8's start screen search function too, where any keypress automatically triggers a search- seems like the kind of thing that would piss off users who use keyboard shortcuts a lot. Mess up something, and suddenly the focus is shifted to a search you didn't want, need to manually get out and try again. Whatever though, I'm sure it's not that bad.

Looking great so far, far more open than 8 at least, which is absolutely a good thing. Wish Windows would stay more traditional instead of pushing for the super modern tablet ♥♥♥♥ look but hey, I'm not gonna strike over that. Eat your heart out, Suyo.

Also pretty sure Windows 10 IS Windows 9, it's just called 10 because ooooh pretty base-10 metric system symbolic junk

Post aimed at OJ, but Vendai, feel free to read the first part, about the search bar.
The search bar can be shortened to a search button just like the Task View icon next to it. Control Panel Taskbar and Navigation Toolbars. On the bottom next to "Search on the taskbar". Select "Show search icon" and you're done with the unwanted box. You can also DISABLE it.


What happened to Windows 9...there's this reason made up: Because Microsoft is running away from 8.
The real reason is kernel talk which will involve Windows 95 and 98. That's why it's Windows 10.

I was saying Microsoft skipped 9 for kernel purposes.
If Microsoft used Windows 9 as the name, with the new kernel chaotic issues would happen, probably throwing back applications to the Windows 95 kernel.

At the end of the day I myself am not sure...so yeah, no one's sure.

you probably read the article explaining how a webdev practice is to take an OS version starting with "Windows 9" to be 95/98
