Nerd

I know this isn't that serious of a topic, but I am for one offended by this term. When I hear the term "nerd", I think of a guy who likes to go to school to learn and NOT make friends (or at least not a lot; Maybe 1 or 2), is a wuss who fights like a beaver who just got drugged, and just doesn't ever like to hang out. Maybe this isn't the proper definition, but's what I think of when I hear this term.

Now, let's see if I match these qualities. I have plenty of friends at school, and I am pretty good at learning, but I go for the food more than anything else. I have a muscular dad who wrestles with me alot, and I pin him down sometimes(believe me, I've seen him up in some fights against people twice his size, so you can think what you want; he is very strong), so I'm clearly not a wuss, and I like to hang out.

Clearly I don't match any of these qualities. Sure I am smart enough to do well, but I'm also charming and loving.

Then a kid calls me a nerd. Well what the F? I guess I screwed up in the definition. Okay, let's try this.
A nerd: Someone who is exceptionally smart in subjects such as math in science, and usually gossips within one's own family.

Okay, well, I do well in math, but I'm not perfect, and I'm even worse in science (tho I'm still pretty good.) Also, I may hang out with my little brother every now and again. Is that so bad?

But yet I'm still called a nerd. Well, you know what? I give up. Call it what you want; nerd has no meaning. Like the term gay, it usually refers to homosectuals, but is that gonna keep people from calling you that even if you aren't? NO!

You know as you get older, you learn not to care what people think of you Blab. Don't get mad if 1 person calls you a Nerd. If a lot more people have then just ignore them. I learn not to care what people think of me. And I'm 12! Just ignore them.

I think the word, "Nerd" means someone who overly obsesses with a certain thing. So in a way, everyone is a nerd on the inside.

Nerds are just extremely intelligent people, with low physical attributes.

Now obviously, these guys that call you a nerd are douches that have nothing better to do than make themselves feel better about their most likely crappy life. Unless they're mates, and just kidding around. If that's the case, it's easily ignorable. If it's some tough looking guy, who picks on others all the time, bash the prick. well.. Maybe not take it that far.

These people are ignorant, just like you said. They judge you via first glance, and make statements based on that biased opinion. They have no idea what you're really like, and what you do, yet, they talk as if they know everything.

What you should do is ignore them. If they take it too far, don't go to the teacher, because that'll just make them think less of you, and mostly likely influence them to do worse things. Go up to them, and say right in their face: "could you please go away?" or "piss off". They'll do one of two things. Leave, or laugh, like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. In that case, just walk off, maybe pretend to talk to yourself softly (but loud enough so they can hear) about how you think they're pathetic.

I guess the meaning of the term "nerd" really changes from person to person. In my school (which is, well, a "nerd school"), it is a GOOD thing to be called a nerd. : P
Basically, just don't let it bother you, and know that when you grow up, they will be the ones who end up working for you. : D

Yeah, I've always had a problem with going to a teacher about this stuff. It's not going to solve the problem; it's only going to make things worse.

Me & my friends know a lot about video games (Not THAT much...) & we don't call each other ''nerds'', which is a good thing.

There prob just jealous cause they get F- and don't have a family. Ignorance. Nerd or not the real nerd is someone who doesn't stick up and fight for themselves.
Do the people calling you that stick up for themselves? lol, they call you a nerd to make themselves feel "cool". I bet each one of them is a bigger nerd than you'll ever be.

I feel like nerd is a general term applied to anyone who actually get A's in subjects (even if there is one subject you can't stand), isn't overly involved in sports, i.e. doesn't play football, basketball, soccer, Lacrosse, etc. I ran Cross Country, and I'd say that might be a "nerd" sport because a lot of people in AP classes ran cross country, and they were very smart. Even still, you can be called a nerd in those if you're good in school, but they're usually joking. Anyways, what I'm trying to say is, most of the time it's just because they don't know anything about you besides the fact that you might be good in the class you have with them, you might not run your mouth like an idiot, and the stuff you say might be deeper than "Bro, I got so trashed last weekend" (at least in High School).

It doesn't really matter. Eventually, everyone grows out of that phase (and if they don't chances are they won't be very successful). I go to a Smart Person College, so everyone here is a little nerdy, even the guys who play Varsity Sports all through high school and are all big and impressive. And I might be a nerd, but I still hang out with them.

It doesn't matter what the shallow douchebag guys say. Your friends accept you and like you. That's what matters.
