Banning - Too Far?

Postby TrappedTime » March 2nd, 2010, 12:17 pm

Okay, so this idea popped into my head, I know none of you will agree but just listen.
I realized that the normal users that go on are good people.
Even I[Surprise literally] have changed some-some.
If a good person gets banned[Perma-ban that is....and he got his warnings through the months, not one after the other] then they can't be with the other people here.
It doesn't seem right to perma-ban someone who everyone knows is good*.
Why is there a need to ban him if he's not the type who would ruin the forums?
Mods, I think you should rethink banning because this situation could happen to me[I have two warnings as you already know].

Does it seem fair to perma-ban someone who isn't the bad type?

*Let's just say this good guy got enough warnings by doing small things, not large things*

I agree, but I think that there should be more warnings

There's a reason they're in the rules, and I'm sure they've thought about it. Also, one warning should be enough to get you back on track, two is a stretch, three is just too far. You've already had two warnings, three is enough to get a perma-ban.

Even for little things? If you do one little thing, then 3 months later do another, and then three months later a final one, you deserve to lose everything you've done for 9 months to a year? HARSH! Like something small like neccesarily double-posting or having bad grammar. If this were true, let's ban Star-Fawful and Itoofast right now!

That's my point. People should be banned for big things, albeit not forever (like reregistering, telling the mods to F*** off) maybe a couple months like GalaxyMario was (and no favortism unless you are measuring by activity) but small things should not register a perma ban.

The dude that was told if he made one screw up, he was banned, no questions, is saying that the mods banning is going too far when he's actually gotten two warnings instead of a swift ban?

Now that's funny.

No really, list one good person who is permabanned.

THE CREED: Nothing is True. Everything is Permitted.
"...That's rather cynical."

"It would be if it were doctrine, but it is merely an observation of the nature of reality.
To say that Nothing is True is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shephards of our own civilization.
To say that Everything is Permitted is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with the consequences, whether glorious...or tragic."

I personally don't perma-ban people after committing multiple "small" things against the rules. When something minor happens, I issue a warning, no matter how many warnings they already have. No, that's not pointless, because it serves as a way of deciding whether or not I should ban the user IF he/she were to do something majorly against the rules. You see, that's the disadvantage of getting warnings. It shows us that you are capable of breaking the rules, and that you don't learn from your mistakes.

I issue Instant perma-bans to the following:

- SPAMMERS and SPAMBOTS
- Users whom have broken a rule to a very severe extent, AFTER being warned several times
. If the user has only just committed the significant rule-breakage(?) after having done nothing wrong, forgiveness is usually the case with me, IF a sufficient apology is given.

Of course, people might find themselves with short-length bans here and there from moi, if the case is severe, and I have chosen to take it easy on them. ;)

TBG, unless you were to advertise... explicit material all of a sudden, you won't have any hassles from me. I am NOT however saying that you can spam to your heart's content. If I do see you deliberately spamming, yes, you will receive a periodic ban and a warning or two.

I think MOY means lack of capital letters and full stops. The occasional misspelling is fine.
