Well, not theories, but just some ideas...

In a physical level, I think that God is some kind of force that connects everything in the universe (omnipresent, and as such, omniscient), and the purpose of this force is to balance everything, so life and existence is possible. You know the Gaia Theory? Like that, but for the WHOLE UNIVERSE (so yeah, omnipotence). And as part of His balancing, it might help people in need, mostly in ways that aren't noticed (like they said in Futurama, "When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all"), or sometimes, if really necessary, He just burns a bush and yells at you what you have to do (at least half of the Old Testament...), or does cool miracles. Of course, this only explains "the way God works", at least as far as I can think of it...

As for the origin of the universe, I believe that God could have existed before the universe, either by not being bound to space and time, or by Time Loop (He sends himself to the past from the future. That's part of another crazy theory of mine though). I've also thought that He created the universe because...

...He was lonely, sort of. He was the only thing that existed. That's why He created the universe, and then created Earth, and life. He created living creatures, male and female, to try and ensure that these creatures wouldn't be alone. And he also gave them a limited lifespan, so they would be able to truly appreciate existence. In other words, He created us so we could experience things that He would never experience because of his God-ness, and also so He could have something to love, since God is love, you know. And most of us don't really give anything in return... but He'll love us anyway.

Now for afterlife... I think if God is omnipotent, He can create heaven, no problem. :awe:

I agree with darthbrowser's talk about String Theory. For those who think Science and Religion can't be connected... I'll just say that God's the one who gave us reason. It's only logical that our reason will eventually lead us to Him.

*raises Flame Shield, just in case*
If Xero reads this, he'll be so pissed :3

^DOZEN THUMBS UP FOR YOU

Well,of course I believe. I don't care if we can find a link between Science and Religion or not,it's God's opinion.

Also darthbowser's String Theory was very confusing. Don't try to explain since I haven't reached that level yet.

I was a theist as you all know but more recently than ever I became agnostic.

Part of me still believes in a God but most of me questions the whole existence and really, I am a pretty logical person. The bible seems more like a metaphor to me.

These are my thoughts:
Imagine- Jesus is described as the son of God. It doesn't mean he's literally the son of God. God is a perfect being and when they say he's inside every one of us, it means that there is a perfection and potential to be great inside every one of our hearts. Whether you discover it or not is up to you, after all, we have 'free will'. But also there is a Satan too, which is the darker side of our hearts. Also our choice whether to let that out or not but at times it can be more difficult to contain.
Free will IMO is a metaphor for the fact that, we don't have to be perfect or evil, but we have that choice inside our hearts and what we do with each potential is up to us. Keep that in mind, that God is perfection. There is evidence that Jesus existed in the way the bible says he did, but by the son of God they may mean it as though Jesus is one of the few to show his true perfection, and that is why he is recorded down. So basically, I don't think there is a real life God, but I do think that he is the image of perfection that we kind of created for ourselves. As for the rest of the bible, I don't believe many stories from the old testament, but I do believe they were written with morals to help us in the future. Adam and Eve teaches us to resist temptation and shows us what can happen if we give in to it. I believe the flood in Noah's Ark represents the flood of negativity and evil spread through mankind and the damage it can cause and the rainbow at the end symbolises how people can change once they realise the damage caused and find a state of mind to flee to, e.g. the ark. Moses I'm in questioning about- I don't believe in the parting of the Red Sea or anything, for me that means the blood can be healed. (blood is red, the sea is cleared) But it sounds like a real life incident to me, with the escape of the Israelites. However the burning bush may just be a metaphor again.

So as you can see, I find it difficult to believe miracles although there are some things that just can't be explained, e.g. Lourdes. But I do think the bible has a purpose and I wouldn't say that science describes the whole existence of Earth and the whole universe, which is why I call myself agnostic, really.

Of course all that is just my opinion. :P If you knew me in real life, you would know I love digging deep into things.

The Bible and teachings of the Catholic Church say that Jesus is literally the Son of God.

Seriously, Joseph is technically supposed to be formally called "The step-father of Jesus."

I must be the worst catholic in the world. :P

Because I hardly believe any of this stuff. I take it all as a metaphor because it's the only thing that seems logical to me.

Well. I'm praying sometimes for other people. Often close ones who died, cause it's for me the only left connection despite the memories. I've been thinking a lot about that recently and seriously don't know if I need a god nor how to definite it. The only answer I got to this question was some philosophical one. "If your opinion changes by answering this we can simply forget about it. If it doesn't I can help you that much to tell you that you already decided and need one." So dunno what to believe right now.

I've gone through many theories in my life, such as where god created the universe and science then left, but in the end, I think I'm agnostic if anything. There's not really a way for me to find the answer, anyways, which is why I believe that religions are more than likely all wrong (or at least none are exactly right), because you have to be pretty damn certain to believe that God marked so many people as witches way long ago, or some other aspect of an almighty power now watch as I'm proven completely wrong about this in the afterlife where one of the religions got it exactly right.. However, I do feel like there may be some form of omniscience somewhere or somehow, so I don't mind what your beliefs are. Just don't go on a massacre that you may think God sent you to do. That's just... well, wrong.

Fellow agnostic speaking - the Bible NEVER said that witches should be killed. The Bible said that poisoners should be killed in the original text, then some idiot translators thought "Hm, 'poisoners' doesn't sound snappy enough. What's close enough? Ooh, witches!"

Honestly, I stopped thinking about believing in god because I don't really care whether there is(are) some omnipotent being(s) in the universe, as they have left us well enough alone that we can go about our day to day lives without worrying that they'll destroy us. I stopped because there were too many things that I would have to study and abide to.

In my opinion, gods, whether they truly exist or not, are used in text to help make the world a better place. The 10 commandments are basic moral ideas. A lot of things in religions are meant to teach us how lucky we are.
