Computer Viruses

Thumbs up x1

Postby Sonicfan253 » March 27th, 2010, 10:50 am

Today on the Web, Hackers, Spammers, and complete strangers that could be a child/teen predator are making virues to mess up people's computer. They may also try to take important files, And get your information if they can. So as you know, Viruses are VERY harmful and dangerous.

Here are the types of viruses:

Spyware
Spam
Virus
Trojan
Trojan horse
Worm
Rouge antivirus

And even more lurking around or being created.

Here are the types of things these Viruses can do:

Slow down your computer
Block you from opening an antivirus program or te task manager
Get your information
Infect your files
Make warnings that will scare you into thinking your computer is infected (Rouge antivirus programs do this)
Make your computer unresponsive
Delete everything

And more things being invented.

Heres how you tell if you have a virus

Computer is slow lately
Scanning with an antivirus every month (this helps spot infected and/or bad programs)
Getting trojans or trojan horses alot
Files suddenly dissapearing
You have a new antivirus program that you never downloaded (Delete it as immediantly as you see it, For the infection has started already)
Pop ups from another Antivirus program (see above)
Not able to open Norton, AVG, Task manager, or others.

More soon....Ill keep researching.

How to prevent viruses:

Get AVG, I did and it tells me whenever I got a trojan horse or something, Then I use AVG to heal the infected file.
If you start getting viruses from certain files after you use them, You might consider deleting them.
Dont download files you or AVG dont trust.
Norton sucks, dont get it.
If anything else seems suspicous, Run an AVG scan immediantly.

What to do if you have a virus:

Situation 1:
You are at your Desktop trying to open AVG, Look through your files and see if there is anything odd or new about them. If you see a virus file, Right click and then click "rename" then type "Virus.png" Or "Virus.jpg". This might mess up the file for now, Go online, get a scanner and run a scan.

Situation 2:
You are at AVG scanning for a virus but you dont find anything, The virus is hidden, Its trying to throw you off. Go online and get a scanner, Then heal the infected files.

Situation 3:
You see viruses all around your computer, Using AVG's "Virus vault" you can get rid of them.

Ill go around the net and see if anyone else has a virus prooblem. Then ill post it here.

Anyway, This is an informational thread where you can tell about your expereinces with viruses, Or you can just talk about them.

This is decent and good help for people, but there are a few things wrong...

Trojan and Trojan Horses are the same.
Spam is not considered a virus.
It's "Rogue," Not rouge.
It's sometimes even more dangerous to just simply Google random virus scanners. You could give yourself a chance of downloading even more viruses. AVG is an excellent antivirus program, and I suggest it as well. Very powerful and thorough.
.jpg files can be corrupted, but I have never seen one as a virus. O_o
When downloading any file from a third party source, try your best to use reliable sources, with comments that say whether or not the files are safe or not.
Never use Limewire. It will create a huge hole within your firewall. You may be able to use the computer for a while, but there will be a time when your computer will bomb because of such a program.
If a scanner tells you which files are wrong, don't just find it and delete it. The file could be important to the computer.
Norton does suck. Lol
The files which you do have to be wary of is executable files.
If you need a decent scanner, I would suggest Kapersky's, Ad-aware, or Mal-ware bytes.
A Trojan IS a virus. If you're getting trojan or trojan horses alot, that DOES mean you have a virus. >_>
When you have a virus, Command prompt is your friend. It's the best way to get around a virus.
There are certain viruses which can actually completely destroy your computer. As in, you won't be able to open it at all. In this case, usually the only solution is reformatting the computer, but always ask an expert before you do anything that drastic.

I think Limewire carries some viruses, I've never trusted that thing.

I can't stand viruses! Every time my computer gets a virus (My dad's computer, actually), my dad takes it out on me. He shrinks my limitations on the internet even more. That's why I could never play games before (Until we got the computer fixed).

My computer sometimes gets files that nobody downloaded. First it is this annoying program that tells you the weather and it will popup every time I restart the computer. Then I found this Rouge Anti virus on my computer. I immediately deleted it after seeing it. Then, a toolbar appeared, then I deleted that. Honestly, it is very annoying that you don't have to be on the internet for something to auto-download onto your computer. In fact, my family used to have a computer until it mysteriously stopped working after a extremely short blackout. The last thing I ever did on this computer was encountering an Anti-spy ware pop-up that made me download it even though I clicked the x that would take it away. And one more thing, I have an old version of Norton Anti virus and my computer hasn't experienced problems yet.

And I dont know HOW you get Rogue antivirus programs, I looked online and about 60 other people had the same Rogue antivirus program that I had X_O

My dad tried to open up the command prompt when he had a virus, And the virus popped up and closed it out. O_o Ill never forget that moment,
