Jerks on the Internet

Postby CedarBranch » March 31st, 2014, 10:18 am

I don't get what is behind the comments sent by any jerk, especially behind their attitude.

Are they really bad people who WANT to hurt other's feelings, or is it only on the web?

It is ridiculous how many times I've found a derogatory, hurtful or spoiled comment on the Internet. It is saddening to think people can really be so harsh and stupid.

It's all about anonymity. The fact that you cannot retaliate face-to-face gives them the idea they can be like that without suffering consequences. So many pleas have been released to get rid of all anonymity on the Internet, like just recently.

They feel a sense of power in that they can say whatever they want to about people.

Of course, sometimes it's for attention. Whether it's good or bad is irrelevant to them. But I do not truly know, and I suppose that's good. Don't stoop to their level though, not that I believe you would ever do that.

Anonymity is key. If I wanted to on any website, I could create an account, go around calling people slurs and tearing them apart limb from limb and there is not even a fraction of a percentage of a chance that they could ever find me. Therefore, I have free rein to vent all the hate and destruction I want and no one can catch me. Nanananabooboo. Stick your head in doo doo.

Ask.fm is one of the worst examples of this- I mean, some of the insults on there, if you said them in real life, you'd probably be arrested. Thankfully admins can still see your IP but it sucks that people will do this in the first place. I always say, if you're not going to say it to a stranger passing you in the street, then don't say it anonymously online.

Also some people are just ♥♥♥♥♥. :S

Well, technically, it is society's failings that are creating legions of ♥♥♥♥♥, not the fact that it is easy to hide behind anonymity on the Internet. Anonymity existed before the Internet, and has always been a tool for both good and bad. The Internet has just shone a spotlight on the process.

This.

Although I do feel like anonymity is a good argument, it still doesn't quite answer the question of what reason they would have to even start insulting others in the first place.

Personally, I feel that it makes them [the ♥♥♥♥ heads that go as far as to insult others on a very vulgar level without any incentitive] comfortable knowing that they just insulted somebody, more or less that they could supposedly get away with it. But the primary factor is that they were able to just go right ahead and start talking smack about a person(s). As for why it gives them pleasure to hurt others I will probably never understand but that seems to be the case with a lot of people nowadays. It's saddening, really.

Sometimes I might joke around and maybe talk a bit of smack on my friends just out of fun, primarily because I know they're okay with it (most of the time) and they know I'm joking (hopefully). But when people stoop down to the level of hurting others and discouraging them, sometimes I wish I could gather them all around and enlighten them.

I'm more or less glad I stuck with this site now.
Expect something cool here soon!
