Say whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? The corner is being updated! What a shock! Ok guys, college and everything, I am finishing this semester quite soon (as in a couple of weeks). After that, I will still update the corner. However, I did notice making it a weekly thing is a bit irrealistic so I might make it a 15-day thing or a monthly thing. Also, there were some topics that were proposed, in particular transgenderism and religion again (with a different perspective). I am putting them both in hold, transgenderism because I know it is a particular sensitive subject for some and religion because we just had a religous debate and I think it is better to wait more.

Anyway, let's get moving...

Do you think traditions are necesary/beneficial for a society? Which kinds of traditions should be kept/updated/remvoed, if at all?

Liberals can have traditions too. :p If you celebrate holidays- religious, national, or otherwise- on certain days; if your family always has certain meals on the weekend; if there's anything you do before going to sleep at night... these can all be considered traditions.

Chances are you have some, because literally everyone on the planet does.

I think traditions can be beneficial. It helps people get together and maybe relax people a bit. Some are pretty fun and exciting.
In terms of keeping or changing traditions, things seem fine the way they are in my opinion.

Oh, that kind of tradition. I meant the other kinds. Yes, that kind is beneficial in sorts (I wouldn't be alive right now if I never ate.) I don't think holidays are beneficial, but I do like celebrating some of them.

Holidays definitely are beneficial in my eyes, because they help to bring people together and the breaks from work/school that come with them help the general public de-stress and relax. Whether you want to celebrate your holidays in the traditional religious sense, in a more secular but still symbolic sense, just as a day or a few to take a break from life and spend time with people close to you (or not), or at all shouldn't matter, because it's a matter of individual preference/choice. For these reasons I think it's great that holidays are often recognized on a national level, where nearly everybody is allowed to take the day off of work, though there are some stupid days that don't really deserve special recognition (looking at you, Columbus Day...). And I still think that it's a little weird how overwhelmingly biased the entire Western world is toward Christian holidays/traditions and not really doing a good job of recognizing special occasions in other belief systems, but I guess observing any holiday is still optional, and there's no reason for us to want to burn our cultural roots anyway.

So I think that traditions in the sense of holidays are very beneficial mentally/emotionally, and they should be here to stay. We could "update" them somehow like you said (not really sure what exactly that means, maybe separating the religious aspect from the official/state definition or something?), but I doubt anyone really cares enough to try to change them in any major way.

I don't have much to tell except that traditions are a significant part of a nation's / religion's / region's identity to make it unique in their very own way. There are some so-called "traditions" like bullfights which I considerate ♥♥♥♥ (pun intended) for obvious reasons, and therefore I wish to be abolished, but most traditions and cultures are simply nice and therefore must be kept.
