Last year we lost over 1000 rhinos due to poaching. This year, as of last friday, we lost another 331. IN THIS YEAR. All because of idiotic asian countries who still believe that Rhino Horns can cure all diseases. Poachers know that, and are abusing this just to earn money. The trend is going to continue to rise due to the governments in Africa not able to protect the natural resources, thus losing the battle like the war against drugs. For most people in africa who own farms, Rhinos are a liability and they can't afford to protect them and are unable to sell the rhinos. And, instead of a controlled market where the Rhino population will rise, they want nothing to do with them. They could just cut off the horn (they grow back) and make them an asset. If they brought money in through good utilisation they would e able to pay for more land and protect the Rhinos. The only way to do this is to prevent the leaders (again, similar to the war on drugs) from controlling the market and to remove their income.
This rant was pretty useless, I know. We don't have the time to raise awareness. I just wanted to say it somewhere because I just can't stand idiots who want the horns for stupid ♥♥♥♥ beliefs. It feels good ranting somewhere about it. I'd take pleasure in poachers getting cut open and butchered the same way that Rhinos are. Poachers are some of the main people who deserve death.
Also, before you say I'm slow, I've known about this rising problem my whole life and have been unable to do anything about it, I'm just one person. I just wanted to say it somewhere. And I'm not trying to be racist, because not all of china, korea, thailand, or whatever asian countries exist believe in these things, but I just can't stand the people who are believing in these things and are abusing the fact that others believe in it.
TL;DR: Rhinos are going extinct and we basically can't do anything about it as it is because of stupid syndicates and old beliefs.
