Actually, I have seen people take seriousness to people making fun of obama but okay.

Tbh, all I was trying to say is that big and important figures are made fun of all the time, be it in cartoons or whatever. It's even the cartoonist's job to pull a joke or throw satirical humor into the audience. And he was killed for doing his job.

Apparently they're dead now. Need to admit that I felt shivers when hearing that. It's trully one of the darker things that took place recently.

It saddens me more that these attackers are promoting the already huge stereotype against Muslims and terrorism.

What I hate about this is that people are now saying "yeah I hate that they got shot, but they said awful things in their comedy, and they should stop so this doesn't happen again." One of my favorite foulmouthed comedians expresses my thoughts to that.

Truth be told, that's in the nature of things. This will always be a shame and a stigma for all Muslims as long as it doesn't stop.

Police wanted to catch the assassins alive, but they deliberately wanted to die as martyrs and kept firing even when lying on the ground.

Going to copypaste a thing here that kind of talks about both sides of it, mostly because I'm too lazy to (and trying not to waste a lot of time to) write my own post:

The gunmen who killed 12 people in the attack on French magazine Charlie Hebdo are now dead after battles with police that claimed yet more innocent victims. The world stands in solidarity with France and its media, and rightly so. Nothing justifies answering the barbs of a cartoonist’s pen with the bullets of a Kalashnikov.

But as the outrage dissolves and the mourning ends, the question will remain: What is the right relationship between free speech and a free society? Freedom of speech is never absolute. There are restrictions for hate speech, libel, state secrets, and so on. A blanket insistence on free speech at all costs is no less dogmatic than a blanket insistence on sharia law. Charlie Hebdo’s brand of satire was arguably racist and deliberately provocative. What we are defending when we defend its journalists is not their right to publish without limits, but their right not to get killed for doing it.

American graphic journalist Joe Sacco addressed this elegantly in a cartoon published on Friday. After affirming—and exercising—his right to vilify Muslims, Jews, black people, and anyone else, he wrote, “But perhaps when we tire of holding up our middle finger we can try to think about why the world is the way it is and what it is about Muslims in this time and place that makes them unable to laugh off a mere image. And if we answer, ‘Because something is deeply wrong with them’—certainly something was deeply wrong with the killers—then let us drive them from their homes and into the sea… for that is going to be far easier than sorting out how we fit in each other’s world.”

One of the attackers, Amedy Coulibaly (the one who took hostages in that jewish grocery), claimed he did nothing, but "defend the Caliphate".

Asked why he attacked Charlie Hebdo and the Jewish supermarket, Coulibaly – now posing with an automatic gun – claims his murderous acts are “entirely justified” and adds: “If you attack the Caliphate and the Islamic State, you will be attacked.”

Congratulations on lowering your "brothers' " reputation even more.
