http://www.bbc.com/news/live/world-europe-30710777On 7 January 2015, at least two gunmen opened fire at the Paris office of Charlie Hebdo, killing at least 12, and seriously wounding 11. The cartoonists Cabu, Charb, Tignous and Georges Wolinski were all killed in the attack, as well as the economist Bernard Maris, and two police officers who were there to protect the magazine.Five people are in a critical condition.
President François Hollande described it as a "terrorist attack of the most extreme barbarity".
The attackers are suspected to be islam extremists who didn't quite like the magazine. Well discuss.

I've read Charlie Hebo a few times in a past visit to France. Great comics, and I've heard the people there were all smart, good people as well. ♥♥♥♥ these terrorists. Killing over religion is one of the most idiotic things.

*one minute's silence*
of course this is an abominable outrage. We are all agreed about that.
I'm not very much in touch with this, and of course there's absolutely no justification for it, but: If a magazine releases Mohammed cartoons of such a kind, what do they intend with this? If you pick up a dirty organization like PEGIDA (yes, not only ♥♥♥♥ Islamistic terrorists, ♥♥♥♥ PEGIDA as well) and make a cartoon of it, you wanna make people digress from it because PEGIDA is ♥♥♥♥. But Mohammed himself isn't ♥♥♥♥. As far as I know, such cartoons intend nothing but provoking and offending and putting oil into the fire. There weren't only oppressive reactions - many many civil and peaceable muslims have complained about it. Rightly. Just imagine how you, as a Christian, would feel if you saw a cartoon of Jesus.
This doesn't play down that a cruel act of barbarity has happened, but first, any magazines should stop making anti-Islamic cartoons with the only intention to provoke, because that's just not done, not because this has happened.
btw, PEGIDA is a german anti-Islamic, xenophobic movement. What a shame for Germany.

Charlie Hebdo is one of the most provocative magazines in france. They constantly make fun of christians, jews and muslims. It's just satire, and it's nothing new. I don't get why this had to happen, "you have to be a very special kind of coward to be this afraid of satire."
No one should be required to stop making comedy that entertains millions because a small amount of people can't take a joke.

I wouldn't even react, in fact. I clearly know they're just joking, and entertaining a lot of other people, so I don't really have any reason to be an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and end the fun.
Also, wait, isn't there that little thing called "freedom of speech"? Aren't they allowed to say what they think?

I'm having more informations now. They confirm my point of view.
Of course, rational people can be above that. Nonetheless showing Mohammed with a bomb as a turban isn't fun for me. It's quite blunt. I mean, yes, it's all about freedom of opinions and press but things like that are crossing the line. I also can't see why this is a case of "they should be allowed to show what they think". It doesn't look like their cartoons reflect their thoughts. They're only made for the sake of mock and satire.
Furthermore! Showing Mohammed with a bomb claims the entire Islamic society to be violent, and this wrongs (100 - ε)% of all muslims.

♥♥♥♥, imagine, that magazine was an equal opportunity offender if ever there was one. And I'd bet just as many if not more angry Christians called in to send in death threats or inform them of creative places to shove their comics as angry Muslims did, angry this group did, angry that group did. It just happened to be a couple of people actually had the balls to follow through with their righteous anger to actually murder people, which is awful.

I don't think that is what the cartoonists were trying to say at all. That image is probably supposed to make you feel uncomfortable. I feel like it is trying to show how wrong killing for your religion is by showing someone important to a religion committing acts of violence. People look at it and probably think something along the lines of "Mohammed wouldn't do that, it is just wrong," and killing for a religion is wrong. The point is that religion is supposed to inspire people to do good and live morally, not kill people who disagree with you.

And even if the cartoonists really tried to be offensive and criticize a religion, there's still no reason to kill them all. Things doesn't work like this.

Of course it isn't in fact (did I ever assert the opposite?!), but for these crackpots it is, sadly. They live in nonsense like "you'll all go to hell and we'll go gloriously to heaven".
