What Runouw.com taught me

Thumbs up x12

Hello. Here are some things Runouw taught me in the five and a half years I've been here. Here they go:

1- Runouw taught me level designing is an artform: I didn't honestly pay attention too much to the issue about gaming and art, but after playing in Runouw and some of the levels, I can say it totally is. When I see the passion people put into level designing, and how much they are willing to express themselves, that is where I feel level designing. Probably one of the most artistic levels is, in my opinion, Tearing Paper. It is a masterpiece of emotion, creativity and technique.

2-Runouw taught me to listen more: When I started here, I posted non-stop stuff on Serious Discussion. After so much time here, I think I understood that is very important to listen more and be more informed rather than constantly try to say your opinion. I think I might have taken it too far, only telling my opinion to people I trust, but I preffer it this way a lot more. I learned to be a listener, to be intrested in other people's opinion, because I think that is how I can learn more.

3-Runouw taught me to help others: At first, I didn't really care about helping others. However, with my time here, I decided my objective in life was helping others. I tried doing so by talking to them and helping them out with their problems, but I then learned that things work much better if you actually help others doing something you really like. Tha is how I got involved with volunteering, aka math teaching. I love teaching math and helping others alike, so volunteering is the perfect mix. However, this did come with a very harsh lesson...

4-Runouw taught me my limitations: This one was the hardest one to learn. When I entered runouw, I thought I could do everything, but in the end, I am a human and I have limitations. I can't help everyone, I can't take everything, and that is fine. Do I want to become better? Absolutely, but I have to accept I will never be perfect, there will always be someone better than me and that is just how it is. (I am still learningt this one btw)

5-Runouw taught me English!: When I started here, my grammar was atrocious, and while my English still is far from perfect, I've come a long way, haven't I? I think that while not as impactful as the other ones, this one deserves mention-

6-Runouw taught me to be nicer: In the beginning, I wasn't really a jerk, but I wasn't too nice either. But with time I understood that if I wanted to build friendly relationships, even if they are not particularly deep, being nice to others is the way to go. And besides, I really want to know how people are, I really want to listen them out, I do actually care for the members of this community, the same way I care about pretty much everybody.

Runouw is teaching me to let it go: Let it go, let it go, can't... ok sorry. It is very hard for me to get over stuff, I've been in some sticky situations, but I think it is very important for me to let things sort of go. Yes, I might have not been up to my own expectations with some people, but as I said with lesson 4, that does not mean I am a bad person. I am learning to let things go, to forgive myself and others. It is hard, I know, but hey, it's not impossible!

That's pretty much it, thanks for reading.

Without Runouw.com I probably wouldn't have developed any self-confidence at all. I'm definitely more mature and knowledgeable thanks to this site and its members.

Oh my goodness Squidward. Where do I even begin with this? I've been struggling with that for a while now when I was absent from here.
But now that I know a lot more about some of the people on here and heard their stories, hopefully I can take another step in letting go because I know I'm not the only one who is struggling.

Same here. Runouw.com taught me that I can be loved for who I actually am. That I don't have to hide behind some fake identity.
It also helped me to stand up for myself a bit more and not be so afraid of being assertive sometimes.
