Problems with Parents

Postby Charcoal » December 28th, 2015, 3:28 am

Link to the original venting pertaining to this as it explains a lot more of what the heck is going on --> here

This may be what's been the cause of all my stress and being an emotional wreck.

So yeah, what's going on is this: I'm about to visit my mother and stepfather. I've had some very rough history with them. I've dreaded going to their place when I would have to switch with them every other week before I turned 18. I was on edge when I lived there, and I just couldn't really stand them.

I'm somewhat in fear of going there because I'm in emotional recovery from all of that, and if they start dictating me like before, what do I do? I can't seem to let go of the pain I was given from their place.

You are legally your own entity at this point. If you feel better staying home, you are legally obliged to do so.

Yes, this is true. I do want to see my stepbrother some at least, so that's kinda why I want to go; but heck, I could just say no at the last minute if I wanted to.
I do want to go there for just a little bit, but I don't want my mother and stepfather to do what they did in the past.

dude, if you're getting abused this bad then definitely don't go there (and make sure to make this more vocal in more reasonable members of your family).

So I went there. It wasn't too bad. I had fun playing Yu-Gi-Oh with my stepbrother and testing out my Synchron deck. I got some nice presents too. I was kinda quiet around them though.

I don't know. Abusive seems too much. Maybe...too strict I guess? I wasn't feeling happy when I posted the OP.

They still seem abusive from what you've told us at the least. Like, what kind of parent keeps their child around just to beat up? Even if it was just verbally it's still messed up.

I don't think they "beat up" on me. They did care for me at least. When I visited them this afternoon, they seemed okay. They were just kind of like a dictator I guess, and it hurt my personality. That's really it I guess. But yeah, I understand why you see it that way.

Ah, okay. That's good to hear they've calmed down now. Hopefully relationships can be mended?

Maybe someday. (Spongebob references c: )
I'm sure it'll mend. I mean I can certainly rest easy since I got to see my stepbrother and tell him something important that I wanted to tell him.
