Suicide Repellers?

Postby Avo » April 21st, 2010, 9:56 am

(I know this kinda late news but......)

Toronto is gonna spend 10,000,000 dollars for each subway station to put up gates so that people can't be able to commit suicide.>_>
In my opinion, that's a horrible idea. I mean, if they put up gates in each subway station so people can't commit suicide, well, those
people will just find another way to kill themselves! And that's a crapload of money to pay for each station! What is Toronto thinking?

I think you make a valid point. I just think that usually when they commit suicide like that, the Transit System gets sued, sooooo.... it's not like when you jump off a bridge, you sue the makers of the bridge.

Where there is a will, there is a way, a friend of mine told that thousands of people every go to the Brooklyn bridge to commit suicide. Blocking off one bridge won't solve the problem. What is next? confiscating sharp objects?

Punishment for suicide-death

If someone's gonna suicide, they're gonna suicide. You can try stopping people through talking, but repelling people might make it worse.

Yeah, they might get even more depressed when they see that their suicide plan failed. Then they might raise the stakes to a homicide-suicide merely cause they're more depressed than is humanly possible.

Like Buff said, you can try talking them out of it, but I don't think that will work. I don't think you can try to stop people committing suicide without making their situation worse.

If you ask me, this is a HUGE waste of money. You think just because people can't commit suicide by jumping onto the train tracks that they won't find another way? Whatever happened to hanging themselves? Seriously, $10 million to prevent something they can't even prevent? What a waste...

No, I think this is brilliant! Next, they should spend a ridiculous amount of money cutting down all of the trees so that people won't hang themselves! I love this idea! :D
