About this whole negative thing, I feel like quoting one of my friends: "I am not pessimistic; I'm just practical." But this doesn't help me much, because that would just make me sound even more pessimistic!
I guess what I'm trying to say is that, looking at the current facts and data, these issues are ones which our generation is going to have to face in the future, whether we like it or not, and we must try to find ways to avoid them. This is not a negative outlook; rather, it is a practical outlook, derived from the facts, which just happens to be less than ideal!

Niklaw wrote:Well of course it's going to be destroyed one day! It hasn't got an infinite amount of resources. Humans, nor any other animal could live on it forever.

However, this most likely won't be the case for thousands of years to come. We'll always find new ways to delay it, like you said, and craft new technology to help us cope with however the environment turns out as a result of what we're doing.

Don't look on it in such a sad light. It's not like the world's going to blow up in your lifetime, nor be reduced to a huge, dead, burning rock. Though not as healthy as it once was, the Earth is coping just fine for now. ;)

The #1 cause is us using up all the fuels, and cutting the trees before they even get a chance to grow. I think we got enough cities on the planet without adding more. And the only non fueled car that helps the environment costs 50,000,000!

So, in my Biology class we spent several lectures saying how we've F*#$ed up the Earth, including:
Tearing Down the Rainforest- SInce the majority of nutrients in the rainforest is in the trees themselves, it is very hard for them to recover when cut down. Also, people in developing countries don't care about the environment, they care about making enough money to compete with the US and other 1st world countries. They don't really have common sense, either.

Water Pollution: Well, this is easily enough defined, we need to stop dumping so much fertilizer and waste into the water systems. Just ask your parents if they really need to fertilize their lawn as much as they do.

Destroying the Ozone Layer: Stupid Aerosol. We've made laws saying they have to stop, and they've gone down, but you still see spray cans of sunscreen and stuff. So I think the laws are a bit lenient, and while it's helping, and a lot of appliances that did hurt the ozone don't anymore, it's still a work in progress. So Get a new air conditioner when it runs out of liquid, don't use aerosol cans, etc.

Global Warming: You should know what this is and such. The problem is, it was really controversial before, but since it's not so much anymore, it's not getting all the attention that it might need. Alternate energy sources will help this. How soon can we develop them, I can't say.

Also, Human Overpopulation and Destruction of the Environment play in. In developed countries, the growth rate is relatively stable, not increasing all that much, but in developing, they produce a LOT of babies, maybe because they need the children to work, or because they have no contraception methods. Anyways, the child birth laws don't fly over too well in the US, who's all like "We just wanna have sex and have children and love them and raise them, m'kay US government?" China, yes, but a lot of other countries, No. I myself plan on having only 1 or 2 kids if I get married.

So Yeah.
Signatures are silly little things.

It actually seems like we can't help the earth without destroying the economy, and vice versa.

I think of it this way, no matter how many enviromentalists there are, or how many talks from al gore about global warming, and however many Ok Computers Radiohead can make w00t radiohead reference!, most of the people in the world are all idiots. And i'm sure im one of them, but theres nothing you can do. Its all part of humanity, everybody says that nobody's perfect, and that is true. Read Fahrenheit 911, that's a good book that touches up on the future without the standard cliche, "Everythings chrome, and we all have flying cars, and robots do all the work" It actually shows what the future probably will be, and its already happening.

So yeah on topic more, I don't think the earth will ever be destroyed, just polluted to the point that we either kill ourselves with technology or war, or we live on the moon and mars after ditching the earth.
