EDIT: Ok, so here's the review.

Mountain Fortress By 1018peter.

Must say this level is very fun, nice platforming and such creative challenges. The only problem with the ideas was the execution. The Flame tower challenge was nice, but way frustating. Because it need a really high platforming skill and a good timing, and I has only the first. Because of this, I needed to play this several times to finally get the shine. But otherwise it was very fun.
I loved the graphics, mainly the fortresses structures and the airship. Liked the way that even being very simple, it was beautiful and everything was fitting. Well done.
Overall this level is very good, and it will provide you a lot of fun. Even if it's a bit frustating it was not repetitive. Hope you fix the things I have mentioned, because it's not everyone who can play some parts without rage-quiting. But I hope you keep your good work!



On a little off topic note, it seems like lordpat is innactive, so, if he don't appear anymore, can I replace him in the staff?

My main complaint about the level JJJ is the huge lag and loading time. I just gave up on the second transition, whereas I would have loved to see what the level really had to offer.

I used to be a sufferer of lag and loading time too, but I pulled myself together and sorted it out. I realised, the smaller I make the transitions, the less it should lag. The smaller I make the levels, the less time it should take to load. Also having a lot of items doesn't help either.

It's fine, I'm planning of looking through in editing mode anyway because I really want to see what is beyond the second transition. :p

So guys! Ever since we got talking in Site Discussion about increasing SM63 videos on youtube to get more activity, even though we came to the conclusion that there were probably better ways to get new members, I still thought it would be fun to continue with this idea.

We'd discussed speed run contests and stuff before and the idea didn't work because not everyone has the chance to get involved. So instead of starting a completely new topic, I'm posting it here instead, so then it keeps this thread alive and we also get to have tons of fun recording levels. (course you can still do reviews and hall of mirrors etc but this is just an addition)

'Kay so first things first, to anyone who doesn't have a screen recorder, I suggest either Screencast-O-Matic or Bandicam. Both have worked well for me, I don't think any of them carries viruses, and just in case make sure you have antiviral software anyway as that's kind of important. But anyways, I have both, S-O-M isn't as smooth as Bandicam, but it's far simpler to use, and it records for free up to 15 minutes while Bandicam only records 10 for free, they both have watermarks but Bandicam's is more tolerable for me personally and doesn't get in the way too much, and both of them can link you straight to youtube if you decide to upload it there as soon as the recording is done (I haven't looked at that feature on Bandicam yet but people have said it has that option).

If you have a screen recorder/a decent one already, that's great as you can have a go at some of this stuff.

I figured I'd base this around any kind of level recording, whether it's a speed run (you could even do speed run duels if you find someone who wants to compete against you), you could do a let's play video of a level or of the SM63 game itself, or you could just show awesome skillz in recording yourself playing a super hard level without dying, or you could even record a level that's hard to access aka has a long loading time or a considerable amount of lag that your laptop can handle.

I hope this will turn out to be fun. Of course that's what this is for- having fun, and uploading it to youtube is a bonus, although to be fair I doubt we will get many views from just level recordings. This is why I'm not taking it too seriously. :P



Soo...yeah, have fun. I reeally want to record myself playing hard levels, like Parasite Queen, or Exterresta if I can beat it again. I'm also thinking it's not a bad idea if I did some audio commentaries on my own levels or favourite levels of mine, because then I'd have a lot to talk about. (I'd probably have to use S-O-M for those, because I don't think Bandicam has an audio option with the free version)

Hope this is well accepted by you guys. I'm personally looking forward to this and hoping it revives some SM63 excitement again. :)

Thank you so freaking much for mentioning "Screencast-O-Matic." Even though I haven't actually recorded anything with it yet, you helped me break through my ages-old barrier keeping me from taking any initiative to record videos of games (including Flash games), something I always wanted to do, but never wanted to go through the trouble of figuring out how to actually record anything properly and not go through any hassles. The part I really love is the fact that I don't need to use Youtube, as it seems.


I'd love to take part. Just wait until I get less lazy at the right moment. :P

Well you can upload it straight to YouTube as there's an option, or you can save it as a file and then upload it later separately. Either way it works. I feel like starting out this thing by recording me playing some hard levels. I can't wait to use Bandicam though, it is admittedly a lot smoother than S-O-M, and I used S-O-M for the WITBLO12 videos. :3

I forgot to mention: the only thing I dislike about S-O-M is the requirement of purchasing the Pro Upgrade to record for longer than 15 minutes. But because the purchase includes more than that, I plan to work for the money to purchase the 3-year Upgrade. Because it's better than having to pay for it each year. :>
At least I have something to pass the time with before I can buy it. :D
