The "Acceleration" Property

Postby Luigifan18 » January 24th, 2010, 11:22 am

I'm kinda curious about how the "Acceleration" property for moving platforms and blocks works. Sometimes, tinkering with it does very little, and sometimes, it makes a drastic difference in how the block moves (I've seen it causing blocks to fail to reset to their starting position, thusly having a gradual net movement far, far away - which could leave poor Mario stranded.) But it seems to be very unpredictable, and I'm not even sure whether it's higher or lower numbers that really make the difference. :? So, I'm wondering what exactly the "Acceleration" parameter is supposed to do, and what I should do with it in order to get the effects that I want. Thanks in advance.

Four's tutorial is definitely where to go, but let me say this real quick.
If you have a fast speed, low distance, and low acceleration, the block will slowly drift away, I guess because the change in direction is too subtle or something. You must have high acceleration to get a block to switch back and forth quickly without drifting. Actually, it doesn't need to be that high, like 10 or so.
Signatures are silly little things.

With that in mind, check out my clever, well-thought, and generally amazing level series!

Yeah, the acceleration help make things like a elevator, or a one-way place.
