Volcove vs. ~MP3~

Postby lordpat » January 30th, 2013, 7:55 am

So, both Volcove and MP3 had their duels cancelled by their rival, but that did not stop them to finish their levels. Due to that, they decided to duel each other with the entries they had had made. So, who will win this duel? Results will be in in less that you expect!

I made a long, long topic for this. But I erased it....;_;

Also, my judgings:

judgeings: show
MP3, Tearing Paper.

Fun: 8/10. I had quite some fun during the series. The plattaforming in the third and second level (both parts) was quite enjoyable, and completely fit the atmosphere that you were trying to make. In the first level, some moments were a bit too annoying in my eyes (the bullet bill parts), and due to some loading time, it became a little annoying. Still, the plattaforming in any case was creative, even if not perfect, it was a fun series to play. Some parts, like the mental instutitue/hospital, kinda pulled the plattaforming down though. They were a bit boring IMO.

Graphics: 5/5. Jaw drop. I LOVE the constructions, the decor, the atmosphere, I love the tiling, I just love how everything looks. Sure, being so long it is not perfect, but you made it up wonderfully, so cheers!

Other: 5/5
-0.5: Some loading time in the first level, and some bareble lag through the series.
+0.5: The monsters and such you made not only fit the storyline perfectly, but they were very creatively made.
+0.5: The kiss part is noteworthy.
+1.5: That story is amazing. Really, it is very deep and well constructed. The only thing that mildly bothered me was at the end. It was kinda like "oh yeah, my parents died, that may have to do with something" it felt a bit....forced. Stil, aside from that, the story was easily the best story I have ever read in SM63.

18/20.
Wow, I am happy giving you this score cause I feel you deserve it. This series shows effort, creativity and artistic development. Really well done.

Volcove's Beyond
Fun: This level was a very intersting puzzle level indeed. The ideas were for the most part quite creative, because everybody uses transformations, but you've used them in a very particular way. The tutorial is a welcome adition. The first challange is good, althought not as good as the others. It is a touch annoying to dodge all those fire towers, but not too bad either. The second one was my favourite and the most creative one IMO. The third one was the hardest and very well executed. My biggest complaint is the lack of coins. I mean, I understand that part of the challange was hurrying up because of the water, but come on, it was a bit unfair. Maybe more coins would not hurt.
8.25/10

Graphics: Very nice! It did not make me go "wow", but the atmosphere was well done, specially the tiling. In the end, the decor is on front of the tiles, but it is probably just a glitch you cannot control, so I am not taing points out. By the way, I love how you ended the level. It was not something incredibly impressive graphically, but it did itsjob, and at some parts, even more.
4.5/5

Other:
+1: That concept was very original. Points for that. I like the way it was constructed, it was original and uniqute.
4/5

Overall: 16.75/20
This is arguably the best puzzle level I have seen (although Direlict Factory comes very close probably). It was unique, it was fun, it looked well. Some parts of the level were a bit annoying, but you made it up. Great job!

Well, that's pretty ballsy of Volcove, considering Amp made the series of her lifetime and he knew it. X)

Whether it was the "series of her lifetime" or not had no bearing at all on the subject, and I was not expecting to win anyways. It was a matter of both duels falling apart for their respective reasons, and I was hoping for some manner of review / critique on that level in particular anyways (which, shockingly [/sarcasm], would have gotten nothing otherwise).
Will do sporadic level reviews on request - PM if interested. I will only do one level at a time. I tend to be rather critical.

Well. What did I achieve from this. :3

1. I became the first person to beat Volcove at a duel.
2. I got an 18 score with just two judgings.

Now I'm kinda curious to see the full score with 3 judgings. Oh well. :p
Anyways, this was fun. ^_^

ByEdit: GTFO SK. Ask via PM or whatever. But not here. Also Congratulation. I knew you win. : D
MP3 EDIT: Thank you, as always. :)

It's probably not the most smart way to guess who wins right after the results...
Still no reason to start ''Fail Counting'' and such. This gets offtopic that way. :|

Also, be very afraid. Very very afraid. What I have between my hands is not something normal. Is not something that can be overlooked, it is not something that-

-Just split it already!

Fine, fine. Here they are, YB's judgings!

YB's judgings: show
Volcove-Beyond
Total: 17/20
Fun: 8.5/10
This puzzle level was executed well! While I’ve see the level flipping concept done a few times, I like how you added your own creativity and made different stars appear based on what pipe you entered. I’ll admit, some of these had me stumped. But it was definitely something worth playing.
Graphics: 5/5
Nothing to complain about here. Everything was spaced out evenly so nothing looked empty.
Other: 3.5/5
+.5 I did like the music, went well with the puzzle level.
Overall, very nicely put together. Others should try this out for a nice challenge.

Amp-Tearing Paper
Total:18/20
Fun:9/10
This level was fantastic. I was able to follow the story for the most part, and the design of the level matching what happened in the story at certain points was really well done. I also enjoyed the balance between exploration of the level as well as just platforming and action. The fire demon and other objects like fireworks looked good also.
Graphics: 5/5
Really astounding work here. There might have been an instance where it looked like 2 water layers crossed over, but I’m really not that picky since that was the only thing I noticed. The beauty of the level really added to the believability of the story.
Other:4/5
+5 Music works well with the different parts of the story.
+5 I like the whole idea with paper cuts and how they damage you.
Excellent job. Everyone should certainly give this level a chance.
