Trouble Making Levels

These days, I was making a new SM63 level to post on the portal. I finished part of it and saved it to continue working on it in another day.

But today, when I loaded the code, the level was corrupted. So, I had to start everything over. But when I saved it and loaded it again, it was corrupted, again. I tried to save on Notepad (I was saving the level on Microsoft Office Word), tried to load it on the .EXE version, but it still didn't work. Now I am really starting to get unmotivated to make levels.

What should I do? Is something I'm doing wrong?

Anyway, here's the code of the level:

Code: Select all

Saving a file in Microsoft Word can introduce invisible characters, since it's a rich text file and not just a normal one - these will mess up your level to no end. Save in Notepad from the start to avoid future hassle.

Thanks, MK. I'll stop saving levels on Word :)

A good alternative would be to save your code in your PM drafts or something, because as MK said, Word is not very reliable.
It might be that you encountered these 'glass tiles' when you resized your level. These tiles can move items, tiles and all kinds of crap around and make your level unplayable. Every time I extend my level's size, I have to scroll around the screen a bit to find them, and then immediately erase them. If you want to know what they look like, they are dark blue, the same dark blue as the out of level bounds area.

Just wanted to enlighten you on this, it's quite a common problem.

I didn't know they can be erased, and as far as I know, they only show up when enlarging the level to the right. But if you take away the last column at the right, and then enlarge it again, all removed tiles come back and these dark blue tiles don't show up at all.

Very weird; every single level I made was pasted on Microsoft Word, yet I never had any issues.

But yeah. Those "stubborn tiles" probably are what caused the issue this time, I would think. (Personally, I place tiles over the entire column of stubborn tiles and then erase them, just to be safe.)

Me neither. Even if I'm going for normal text files nowadays.

It's happened to me once, but yeah. It's a pretty common problem.

I've been able to avoid this by immediately saving and reloading the level after resizing.

Now I saved the level on Notepad instead of Microsoft Word; right now there aren't any issues in the level. Thank you all for the tips.
